anyone ever see a mid-engine FC?

as title says...just curious. Pondering the possibillities.

you guys know...it's coming up on project season! :D

Icemark 04-23-03 07:28 PM

Every FC is already mid-engine. The engine sits between the front axle line and the rear axle line.

Makenzie71 04-23-03 07:37 PM

smart ass...lol

anyone ever seen one with the engine BEHIND the driver?

projekt 04-23-03 07:54 PM

no, cause there's really no reason to. the only time you mid engine a non MR car is when it's FF

Dan H 04-23-03 07:57 PM

Don't think I've seen any. Might have to use a transaxle off another car though and tons of fabrication work and then you could have bought yourself a new MR2 or something or maybe a used NSX. :D

Makenzie71 04-23-03 08:07 PM

figures...especially considering the weight distribution already....just trying to find a decent direction for one of my projects this year.

projekt 04-23-03 08:13 PM

steal mine, Ford probe with it's egine in the back, it's the sweetest V6 made, you would have a ferrari killer. well a chick car ferrari killer :)

Makenzie71 04-23-03 08:18 PM

lets see pics...for some reason I'm thinking your engine may be in the back for the same reason my 13B is in the back of my car...unless you got really bored one week.

projekt 04-23-03 08:27 PM

no i don't have pics, that the car i want to build, and if not that, then a DC2 integra with a EJ20T under the back of it :)

SonicRaT 04-23-03 08:30 PM

Just drive in reverse, it cost less, and requires a good bit of driver skill to manage!

projekt 04-23-03 08:31 PM

top speed: 15mph!

spunks 04-23-03 08:34 PM

Why don't you get a pontiac fiero and modify it to fit a twin turbo rotary in it hooked to a getrag 5 sp..

Now there's something no one has done yet that I know of.

projekt 04-23-03 08:36 PM

eeeeewwwww fiero :)

bkapold@aol.com 04-23-03 08:38 PM

I've seen a FD motor in an MR2..... and an FD in a Lotus 7

Makenzie71 04-23-03 08:38 PM

if I took on a fiero project it would involve a 427 and two T3 turbos.

Makenzie71 04-23-03 08:39 PM

where did you see the FD in the MR2? I wanna see.

projekt 04-23-03 08:50 PM

i've seen 20b in a delorean. was the 13brew in the mr2 longitudinal or transverse?

Ahh you mean rear engined or rear mid engined like a MR2 or a air cooled Porsche.

projekt 04-23-03 08:59 PM

mr2 is mid engine, porsche is rear engine, rx7 is frontmid
the only mid porsche i know of is the suckster, 914, and the new carrera GT

Gene 04-23-03 09:34 PM

Hey the mid-engine porsches handle better than the rear engine ones. Rear engine = t3h suck.

grinchy 04-23-03 09:36 PM

Rotary Performance was doing a bunch of 70's 911 rear j-spec turbo installs in december. With a new body kit looks a lot like the new 911's. With Rotary power.

BlackRx7 04-23-03 09:49 PM

yeah a freind of mine fab a coupla Streetportd 13B is some 914s and they hauled balls cause there so light!

Hey projekt, what year and trim is your Probe? And which Probe V6 are you using, the 164hp 2.5L or the 140hp 3.0L? I've got a '90 GL (wooo 4-banger....-_-), and a job like that could actually make that car worth driving again. Oh, and if you can fit the 3.0, you should definately look into getting a 3.0L Taurus SHO V6. It's practically the same engine as the 1st gen Probe LX 3.0L V6, but with 200~hp. Could even overbore it to 3.2L, I hear SHO'ers like to do that. ....or so I hear. Could this actually work? Lol. :D

You could flip the axle and use the forward gears to go backward. Make sure to get plenty of video footage!

You'd have to be pretty bored to do that though. :o:
