another turbo ?

I have a 87 tII and i would like to know should my turbo make a loud pop noise or back firing noise when i get the rpm's up around 5000 : also i hollowed out the stock downpipe because it was clonged thanks nick

i don't own a TII, but i would say probably. when you hear that 'pop' sound your car is actually shooting flames out the back. do you get any hesitation or anything when you hear this noise?

fc3seeker 03-19-04 08:27 PM

The pop is coming from your exhaust (due to excessive fuel) and not your turbo.

Black TII 03-20-04 12:15 AM

what cause's excessive fuel to make it loud pop thanks nick

kleach18 03-20-04 12:30 AM

Not having the stock exhaust...

White_FC 03-20-04 01:51 AM

Are you talking about when your accelerating or accelerating in the negative direction?

Even if its when your backing off, that is not normal, IMHO, your car isn't tuned right. Do you have an 'open-air' venting BOV?

Even with a straight through exhaust I never had a backfiring problems

Black TII 03-20-04 08:49 AM

thanks everyone i don't even know where the stock bov is and there is no exhaust on the car the exhaust piece is the down pipe and it's hollowed out thanks for ur help nick

rx7lover0147 03-20-04 10:55 AM

does the car hesitate when it makes a pop noise because then it is fuel cut

*a*jones* 03-20-04 11:16 AM

there is no exhaust on the car the exhaust piece is the down pipe and it's hollowed out
theres your culprit. i wouldn't be too concerned. as far as the excessive fuel causing the backfire, it's 'normal' on rotaries. mine does it alot and i'm an N/A

frestylereaction 03-20-04 11:31 AM

do you drive with only a downpipe?...id be scared of that....pop...flame...explode car

$150FC 03-20-04 11:38 AM

if you're running with just a bored out downpipe you might boost too high, hit fuel cut, and detonate, thus blowing your engine. that would be bad.

fc313bt88 03-20-04 01:13 PM

im running open downpipe but i have the mods to do so

Black TII 03-20-04 09:45 PM

no the is sittin waitin for me to get off my lazy ass i bought a new engine because the one thats in the car a making the pop sound is blown it has 99 psi on the front rotar and 80 85 on the rear so i have the exhaust off the car except for the cat back which is a rb the car is not a daily driver yet i was just asking u guys y it was poping / also i think the egr is bad because when i push on the diagram the idle doesn't change so just give me somemore advise thanks nick
