Another mother F'ing horror story!

So I have a new horror story to add to my previous horror story. Fortunately for me I did not take the brunt of the damage in this story.....................So........I found a car for sale in the second gen forum. An 88 Turbo II with about 100k on the clock. The seller of the car is asking for 900.00 which I think is a pretty good deal. The only problem with the car is that it's in boston and I'm in New York. Not that I couldn't do the drive, but the bitch of transporting it back was apparent. Luckily for me, the seller agreed to drive it down for me (one of the coolest members on the board by the way).I couldn't pass up the deal. They drove down on wednesday with the car I was to buy and their transportation back( S5 Turbo II). After accidentally sending them on a wrong way tour of connecticut highways we met at the Danbury mall at 7:30pm. The drive back to my house with the other 2 rx7's was great! After dropping of the car at my house I suggest that I lead them back to the highway to start their return trip (3 and 1/2 hours). Its already 9:30 and I still need to drive my friend home. We make it to the highway after smashing on a honda civic and all is going well. The seller of the car calls me from his friends Turbo II and asks if we could go back to my house. Apparently he had forgotten something in the car he had sold me. It's only about 2 miles from where we are on the Highway so I get off at the next exit. This particular exit, is an entrance that I use all the time so I'm familiar with the roads but they are wet and littered with patches of dense fog. Needless to say I'm taking it slow. I'm also trying not to lose the car thats following me, the TurboII. We go through a few turns and the turbo is right behind me, having no problem cruising with my gxl. The next turn is a slight S turn and I negotiate it easily at about 40Mph. I look in my rear view to make sure he's still on me and.........nothing! Uh-Oh I don't see any Fucun headlights. He was right with me, where the hell did he go? So i quickly whip the car around to see if he broke down. 100 yards up the road I see the remnants of a beautiful Rx7 after sliding into a tree. Luckily the guys are both unharmed but the car is pretty fuked. Not to mention its the drivers 18th birthday and he's 240 miles from home with no transportation. Luckily I was able to get them on a train and get them back to boston. I am now waiting to see what they'll do with the wrecked TurboII sitting in my drive way. I have never felt so bad for someone, these guys definitely did not deserve to have this happen after a 4 hour drive. Anyway here are a couple pics and the link to my other horror story.

Damn man, I hope you have full coverage with your insurance.

Therx7ist 05-31-03 06:59 AM

luckily it does not appear that there was any damage to the engine. I got the hood open to take a look and the damage doesnt even appear to have made it to even the radiator. I'll find out more today. the only thing that worries me is the wrinkle in the fenders...possibly an indication of a twisted frame?

avoid 05-31-03 07:55 AM

damn that hurt my eyes glad every1's okay

Fingers 05-31-03 08:03 AM

Those pictures make baby jesus cry.

I'm glad you guys are ok. And i'm sorry to hear about this unfortunate, unfortunate occurrence. I'll drill you about your driving when the car is repaired and you've had a good laugh about the incident.

$200 from Victoria British, or $50 used.

I wouldn't call that expensive at all.

Center of The Universe 05-31-03 01:43 PM

Well new from the dealer.

RYLMONKEY 05-31-03 03:31 PM

How can we find out if theres frame damage? Thats the most that worries me.

Therx7ist 05-31-03 04:00 PM

well i guess u could take of the fenders? I'm not that good with assesing damage but an educated guess says it looks twisted. the fact the the tire points straight yet is sticking way ot kinda shows that the frame may have moved over 4 inches

Therx7ist 05-31-03 04:03 PM

another pic

TakumiJr 05-31-03 04:19 PM

Yes we made the 3:15 train back to boston. My parents didnt say anything they just said I told u not to go to NY.

Drifter101 05-31-03 04:55 PM

That really does suck man, im glad to hear your both ok and everytime i see that Tii it makes me want to cry. Hopefully you can get coverage or do something with it, id imagine the frame is probably bent by the looks of the pictures :(

1adzam 05-31-03 05:22 PM

visual inspection. You can also take the diagnal measurements from corner to corner. if they vary from side to side it is bent. The dimensions are in the owners manual or the haynes manual. Sorry to hear about this but glad everyone is ok.

pinkin 05-31-03 09:15 PM

dude you have the worst luck. im sorry about all this. as punishment you need to send me the engine and the tranny out of that car and say ten Hail Marys.

JasonL 06-01-03 02:58 AM

I bought my TII with frame damage, so I learnt a fair bit about em. First things first, jack the up the whole car, jackstands etc. Get out the measuring tape, measure the distant between the frame rails. Just not the front, but the whole car. I'd say there's a very high chance that both rails are bent, probably inwards. There is a round support that connects the 2 rails infront of the radiator, looking at that also lets you get a general impression. I think it's definately fixable, mine was just as bad but hit from the side... Don't remove anything till you deal with insurance, you got a long road ahead of you, sorry to hear about it and good luck!

Boomer 06-01-03 04:41 AM

not to be a materialistic ass, but if u total the car, how much do u want for the motor?

RYLMONKEY 06-04-03 08:50 PM

WOOOO HOOOO! the Insurance just gave me the finger! lol im !ucked. basically i paid 1500 a year for jack shit. first off i call right when i get home they say they cant find my policy. they give my a number for some investigator and i call 5 !ucken times no one picks up i call friday nothin. monday they finally pick up and they say its the wrong friggin number that there a grocery distributor. then i call the insurance they give me the same number and just say i dialed wrong and i told what they could do with my car and they said nothin.

Therx7ist 06-04-03 08:58 PM

what? insurance is refusing your claim? is that what's happening?

RXciting 06-04-03 09:32 PM

what insurance company is this man?
Thats a fuckin rip off..
it's not even me and i'm seriously pissed off!

WTF!

J-Rat 06-04-03 10:17 PM

Oh man....This sux...

Sorry guys.

Jarrett

Bambam7 06-04-03 11:43 PM

That's horrible. Keep on the insurance company and get a good explaination. THEY work for YOU. You deserve to know everything. You own them , and keep that in mind when you talk to their reps.

BTW- I though in the first post it mentioned that the transportation back was an S5TII? That's an S4 in the pics though...

Simplecat 06-05-03 12:35 AM

Damn man, that sucks, sorry a bout the bad turn of luck..

GREG

PS on the bright side, thats a pretty clean looking starion/conquest in the third (I think) picture.

Detriuch 06-05-03 01:14 AM

thats a no go! glad they are ok though

Psychoblue23 06-05-03 02:22 AM

so wait, if he was right behind you , on a simple road, did you ask him what the hel happened.???

- James

Therx7ist 06-05-03 05:09 AM

that conquest was just bought by my friend for 1500 dollars, its got 38,000 original miles! deal of a lifetime!

cmanasseri 06-17-03 09:59 AM

Did the insurance company pay your claim?

ViperKillerWannabe 06-17-03 10:49 AM

Yeah, let's have an update :)

westcoasttuner 06-17-03 01:12 PM

Whats the name of the ins, so we can all prank call them and spam the crap out of them!~!!

Fingers 06-17-03 07:08 PM

umm buddy... go see a lawyer. Your insurance company is there FOR YOU. They don't refer you to a number that doesnt exist. And if they do, they are a scam artist and legal action MUST BE TAKEN IMMEDIATELY.

RYLMONKEY 06-18-03 11:13 PM

welp i only had liability. so they told me they wouldnt do shit for me. my insurance company is liberty mutual. my whole family and the house insurance is liberty mutual and we just canceled them all. FUCK U LIBERTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yearrgh 06-19-03 12:09 AM

I think it might not be that bad since the wheels look like they're where they belong. Did the radiator crack? If not, i'd try starting her up and doing a quick tour around the block if the fenders aren't pressing into the wheels. That will tell you real quickly if the frame is bent.

DCL 06-19-03 04:03 PM

Sorry about your car, but it's not the insurance company's fault that you didn't take out collision. Liability doesn't cover damage to your car in accidents that are your fault. Everyone should read their policy so they know what's covered and what's not. I'm not a fan of insurance companies after managing a body shop for 4 years and having to fight for every nickel we deserved. At the same time, you need to know what is covered and not. If you're not sure, call your agent and have them explain your policy to you.

BTW--the damage to your car is not that bad. With used or aftermarket parts you should be able to keep it on the road. Try dealing with Mike's Towing in Danbury. Mike is a good, honest body man. Maybe have him fix the frame rails & radiator support and rough hang the sheet metal. That should get you back on the road.

Therx7ist 06-24-03 07:13 PM

Well whats the newest with the car? have you decided what to do ?
