Aluminum Door Sill Plates for FC
I am looking into the possibility of having some aluminum door sill plates made for my FCs. I would do this with the intent of selling additional units to offset the cost of setting up the die. Any interest in this or is it just my envy of the FD guys?
What would you be willing to spend? |
Hey where did you get all of your body kits pieces that is baddass! please tell
|
I'd buy a pair.
|
So would I, depending on the cost.
|
Any hopes for a 1st gen gettin' any attention?

This is a stock picture of the white Maria Motorsports 20B/FC conversion car.
Unless he aquired this car from Mariah, its just a picture he uploaded or linked to. go to Maria Motorsports for more information. |
I'd buy them!!! if the cost is justifiable!

Cost and Picture notes
Yes, that is the stock picture from Mariah Motor Sports. More mods are underway. Computer upgrade, full rollcage, interior seats, addt'l instrumentation, etc. Will be in garage by December. More pix to follow, thanx for your interest.
Now back to the real question. What do you consider a reasonable cost for the sill plates. I do not know what the die will cost, but I need to be armed with interest level and what people would be willing to spend so I can figure how many units would have to be produced. 3Rotor |
I would definately take a set for my '90 Vert ... maybe even for the Barney Mobile, since it does still have an interior.
|
One more thing, please trim your sig down to under 20K in size ...
|
if it is brushed aluminum not super shiny aluminum i would also be interested
|
If they're very nice and look and fit just like the plastic partys I would be willing to pay up to say $200.

and yeah brushed aluminum would be cool (when i get my FC) |
Yes! I am the lucky new owner of the 20B project by Mariah Motorsports. There are a few things that were agreed that would be done before I take delivery, but I know Jim Haggerty and crew at Mariah are working my project into their very busy schedule. Snipper_X was quick to point out that I had linked to the Mariah site for my picture. But I figured if I was the new owner I could show a picture, plus I am still learning some of the "advanced" aspects of jazzing up my posts. I was also asked to reduce the size of my signature. So while I figure out how to do that, I am just listing my two RX-7s (both AEs) and pointing anyone who is interested in checking out my cars to my website - crude, but functional - much more to follow. Cheers.

Yes-I really want a set!!! I would probably pay up to ~$200 for them, if they turned out nice.
I second the vote for brushed rather than polished. Would it be possible to have, say, RX-7 in them? I would think so if custom molds were going ot be made. Keep us posted! |
Nice to see someone finally bought that car. Always liked the fact that it is fully accessorized. Besides that, I would definately be into some of those alum sills. Keep me posted.
Oh, and we'll have race someday.... |
Have Rotor shaped grips, and RX-7 in the middle.
Although thatd make it cost plenty more itd be sexy, ya know, like me. Cause I'm sexy. |
Im all about a set :) will they say RX-7 on them, or Mazda?
RX-7 works for me :) black lettering with brushed aluminum hit me up with an email, jameson@huckaba.com thanks! |
i think the $200 price tag is a bit much for the average owner. if you want hot cakes then they would hae to be around $90. the honda's get theirs for that price.... granted we aren't as large a # as they are. also have you hit this post on www.teamfc3s.org i definitely would since they are all 2nd gens.
i definitely would buy a set and the brushed would look good with any interior color. you're onto something friend... |
The dealer installed/available aluminum running board covers were only $60 new back in '90... no way I would pay $200.

Some bad news
I guess I didn't know what I was wishing for. The process by which this is done is VERY expensive. The metal works that I have been talking to this about estimate $10,000 per side for the die. That means to make them economical, I would have to sell thousands of them to break even. I am pursuing some custom made ones, which will be spendy. If I do end up getting them made, I will post pics and let everyone know what they cost. Then if you're interested I'll pass along the guys name.
Cheers - |
Heres a dumb question, whats a door sill? are you talking about the insert on the inside of the door behind the handle and locks?
