Air intake thermosensor (engine)...where is located???

2 Attachment(s)
Greetings from Greece.

I ve been searching the forum for a relative thread and found some posts but i didnt understand where exactly is located.

My car is a S5 Turbo.

The sensor that i am looking for is the one located below the BAC valve, next to the tube that feeds the IC with air and almost behind the air pump pulley.

It has two cables running from it and It looks exactly like the one in the foto but according to the FSM its not the intake air thermosensor because the air intake thermosensor in S5 turbos is located below the IC and to the driver's side, am i right?

So....is the air intake thermosensor the one that i am looking for?

I thank you in advance.

It's on the throttle body inlet - under the intercooler (if you still have the stock one). Opposite side of the engine from the BAC valve.

So its not the air intake thermosensor....

Does anyone know what sensor looks exactly like the one in the fotos and its located below the BAC valve and behind the air pump pulley???Two cables running from it.....black harness....any ideas???

The one you're describing is the air intake temperature sensor (same thing). Does that answer your question?

That's not an air temp sensor, it's the port air solenoid valve.

This info is easily found in the Factory Service Manual. If you don't have the FSM, click here and download it in PDF format for free.

Thanx for your replies.

I ve already searched the fuel and emissions section of the AFM...i didnt found that particular sensor!!!!!!!

So NZ its called port air solenoid valve???It doesnt look like a valve...i thought it was a sensor...
I ll check the FSM again

I ll try to take a photo and post it here...

Ok...here are the pics...

So...what am i looking at???

Port air solenoid valve or something else???

NZConvertible 04-05-07 06:19 AM

Definitely the port air solenoid valve.

If you're looking for the intake temp sensor circled in the pic in your first post, it's screwed into the TB inlet. FSM psge F2-2, item 13.

Ok, so he linked a pic to the air intake sensor and described the port air solenoid valve. Good to know I'm not 100% crazy. :p:

Thanx for the confirmation NZ...

Somebody in another thread told me that the thing that i was describing was the AIT...i wasnt sure so i checked it...:):):):)...Thats why this forum exist, right???To help....

Does anyone know where to buy a port solenoid valve online???Mazdatrix doesnt seem to sell it...

You can try the dealership....

Buy a ACV off someone on the USA forum and it'll have the port air solenoid on it.

After twenty thousand miles have been reach on a car, it is open all the time. So, I'm saying you could get a bolt to plug the open hole and be just as well off as long as the bolt does not go down into the hole too far.

The port air and split air solenonds have no effect whatsoever on engine performance in anyt way, shape or form.

Ok thanx for the info...

Another thread raised from the dead.............:):):)

Can i just unplug the port air solenoid valve???Is it ok to do that???
The two wires that connect this valve to the main electrical system are rotten and i think that they cause problems when i drive in bumpy roads.

Thanks in advance and have a happy new year guys!!!!!

Anyone???

NZConvertible 01-04-08 05:15 AM

Like the man said, it has no effect on how the engine runs. It'll only effect what comes out the tailpipe. :)
