add coolant buzzer

My add coolant buzzer keeps going off when I corner just a little hard. I've checked my coolant level and it's fine. Any ideas?

Go48 03-01-06 04:25 PM

Make sure you check the coolant level in the top tank of the radiator, not the overflow bottle. Otherwise it sounds like you coolant-low sensor on top of the radiator is malfunctioning.

Carzy Driver 03-01-06 04:32 PM

check the connector at the top of the radiator, may have unplugged itself or the wire could be grounding out somewhat, most times it by the stock air box where it gets smashed.

kungfuroy 03-01-06 04:34 PM

Probably need to air it out, bring it over and ill take a look at it

Tournapart 03-01-06 04:38 PM

also note that on that level sensor the wire is about as thin as most O2 sensor wires, why they would make such skinny, unprotected wires for these sensors is beyond me, but back the subject, chances are either the wire INSIDE is bad or it broke off or the sensor is effed up, something along those lines

cool_as_crap 03-01-06 04:40 PM

air bubles. flush the system

Valkyrie 03-01-06 04:45 PM

I'd say it's more than likely a broken (or unplugged) wire, if you aren't losing coolant.

It wouldn't hurt to flush it, though.

Edit: Oh, if it's just during cornering, than I'd say it might be a little low, or you've got bubbles.

ProjectKN 03-01-06 04:54 PM

it might be your add fluid buzzer, not add coolant buzzer. Couple days ago i noticed whenever i make a right turn my add fluid buzzer came on, so i added my oil in and now it is fine.
Do you guys know if the meter should be 60 or 90 on the oil gauge??

Icemark 03-01-06 07:45 PM

chances are if it is only going off around corners, then it would be low oil... not bubbles in the coolant

There is a 10-second delay built into the coolant warning system, so unless you're doing continuous circles in a carpark, that's not the coolant warning.

Go check your oil like you're supposed to regularly...

7 useless posts before someone who knows what they're talking about chimes in.

I bet the buzzer only goes off on one direction of corner, too. I honestly can't remember right now which side the sensor is on, though.

If this is just a daily driver, add oil, call it good. If you're running on the track or such with really grippy tires, and you're having this problem with the oil topped off, you might want to look into an oil pan baffle. It's a plate with holes in it that sits above the oil pan, and prevents oil from climbing up the side of the engine (away from the pickup).

^^Why would his "add coolant" buzzer go off if he is low on oil???

Pshaw, before I rebuilt my 13b the coolant would get low every two weeks. Usually a hard right hand turn exposes Low coolant or air in the system or/also low oil levels. And not anywhere near ten seconds time.

Bleed the system at the hose that goes into the back of the throttle body. I have had good success using a turkey baster to inject water into that part and chase out any air.

Easy. It's a low oil & low coolant buzzer, and generally when cornering hard, your eyes are on the road. You see a brief flash of light on the center cluster, but by the time you look over to see what lit up, you've straightened out & the buzzer/light are off. So, since most of the posts about the buzzer involve coolant, you assume it's the coolant buzzer.

Money says if he corners hard & looks, it's actually the oil light, not the coolant light.

Ive got money its oil. my car does the exact same thing in hard cornering. And its too fast to tell if it was coolant, or oil. Or nothing lights up at all, it just buzz's at me.

Because they use the same buzzer, which is also used for the redline warning. They have different warning lights.

There is no way cornering forces will expose the low coolant sensor because the sensor is right at the top of the radiator. It's simple geometry. And if you don't believe me about the delay then go read the FSM. Sounds like you need to check your oil more often too...

Houstonderk 03-02-06 07:31 AM

If you haven't figured it out yet, maybe you could just ground the coolant level sensor wire and if it still goes off then its the oil level. If not then something in the coolant wiring. Doesn't the power steering also go with that system?

cool_as_crap 03-02-06 10:00 AM

so wait, does the 'add coolant' idiot light come on? or is it just a buzzing. the low oil thing could make sence if there is no coolant light...

power steering has its own system, not related to that buzzer

Do you know if your 'add coolant' light up in the cluster?
It used to do that in mine. The 'add coolant' comes on when I was cornering or just backing up. It had bubbles.

Actually checking the oil level would be a much smarter way to do this...

InNeedOfBoost 03-02-06 11:44 PM

i made this same thread today....ima go check mine but im thinking its bubbles in the system, i know for a fact mine is the add coolant light, it just comes on randomly when im normal driving

pshaw118 03-04-06 04:23 AM

ok. So after forgetting about this thread and then remembering it after hearing that stupid buzzer again, I'm pretty sure it's the oil. Thanks for all the advice, but the oil guys win this one. :)
