the 88 se
ok well tommorrow me and a friend are going to check out ann 88 se. How are they in comparision to the other trims ie gtu gxl etc. This car is going to be fixer upper, and is being sold for 1200, is this a decent price or should we try to go lower. I already have a 88 gxl and love it to death, are there any performance differences. Any facts or opinions will help greatly. Thanks for your help. :D

Always try ot go lower. :)

I bought one new, and was very happy with the car. It is the base model, and has the smaller 14" wheels, single-piston brakes, no LSD, and the interior isn't as nice as the GXL. However, it makes a great daily driver, and you can fix it up to look very nice.

I love my SE--it's the same year you're looking at.

I bought an '88 SE back in January. It has an aluminum hood (I was pretty surprised to see that). It was a one owner car with perfect body and interior. The car had 167,000 miles on it when I bought it, and the drive line was all the original parts. The engine makes great compression and runs like a champ.
I've had to put a new exhaust system on it because it was rusted out, and replace the coils. Other than that, the only things I've done to it are the normal things you do when you buy an old car (replace all the fluids, filters, belts, etc.) I paid $900 for it, but I considered that to be a steal. I'd say $1200 is reasonable for a fixer upper if the things that need fixing up aren't going to be too expensive. |
