You won't last long around here without a slightly thicker skin.. Don't take anyone too seriously. How about some details on when you get hesitation? is it a certain RPM? is it only under slow accelleration, hard accell, right after the shift, ect?

Try replacing your fuel filter too. (easy replacement)

its as all acceleration, atleast i think. here i will give u the gist. i bought the car about 6 years ago from my uncle and we had the engine rebuilt and put msd and short shifter on it. i been running into some money problems paying off some things and getting layed off. so the car sat for 5 years. now up on my feet i went out and started it and without a problem it did just a rough idle, ran the gas out and put premium in with top of the line injection cleaner. when i am in first it sometimes not all the time jerks but not hard not knowing how to shift jerks, enough to notice jerks all through the rpms, it happens off and on
Okay, your profile says that your car is an 86. That means that it's nonturbo, unless you swapped the engine, right? The reason I'm asking is that the premium gas may be causing your hesistation. You really should only ever run the lowest octane you can get (86) in a Naturally Aspirated rotary engine.
Other than that, since it's been sitting so long, it could be a lot of things. Follow the two suggestions above, with the TPS adjustment (it's in the Factory Service Manual (FSM) in the FAQs at the top of the 2nd gen section), as well as a FULL filter and fluid change. Change every fluid in the car, engine oil, power steering, clutch, brakes, transmission, differential, coolant.. I think I hit them all?
Change the air filter as well.
Your next move should be to change all your vacuum lines. they're likely brittle and cracking/cracked, and can be causing rough idle as well as spotty accelleration. If you don't have emmissions in your state, now might be a good time to clean up the engine bay by removing the emmissions rack.
Done with that, you should be looking for any sort of grounding problems you might have. Follow the ground from the negative terminal of the battery, and make sure you get a solid connection everywehere it touches. There's a good grounding tutorial in the archives. The 3800 RPM hesitiation is a well known result of poor grounding.
Lots to do on a car that's been sitting, eh?

if it does it around corners and hard acceleraction, the fuel pump sock is usually dirty and needs replacing, also grounds may have bad connections. theres many things that can be wrong with these old cars

Depending on your tank (when you pull your pump to change the filter, take a look inside), you may want to drain your tank, unbolt it, and take it somewhere to be flushed out..
