1986 RX-7 Question

I take Auto Shop at school and I asked my teacher if the car I found was good.
I found a 1986 RX-7 with a swapped engine with 90,000 miles on it and he said that when rotary engines reach 100,000 Miles they start to have compression problems.
What do you guys think about this car.
The only info I have other than the mileage on the engine is that it has 550cc Injectors.

idsigloo 10-24-06 06:58 PM

My Na lasted 165k miles. Run a compression check if your unsure. Why would they put 550cc injectors on an NA? Do they enjoy bad gas mileage? Or do they have an infatuation with fireballs?

Balderdash!

mazdaverx713b 10-24-06 07:05 PM

the engine in an FC will last far past 100K if its properly cared for and not abused. get those 550's out of there and give us more info on the car if we are to properly assess it.

Fire!

If it has a turbo the 550 is normal right?
The guy bought the car as a project car but now he's selling it because he needs money for school.

mazdaverx713b 10-24-06 07:15 PM

we'll have to give him the benifit of the doubt before he gets flamed. most noobs need to get the hang of the forum(search feature) before they get bashed. its like learning to ride a bike.....

mazdaverx713b 10-24-06 07:18 PM

yes, the turbo II has the 550's both for the s4 and s5. the s4 turbo II's injectors are low impedence and the s5 turbo II's are high impedence

c0d3_z3r0 10-24-06 07:19 PM

I emailed the guy about information on the car.
I'll tell you guys what the info is when I get it.

mazdaverx713b 10-24-06 07:22 PM

that would be cool. whats the overall condition of the car and what is the guy asking for the car?

HAILERS 10-24-06 07:31 PM

No turbo engine in 86 to the best of my memory.

c0d3_z3r0 10-24-06 07:31 PM

From what I've seen from the pictures and the text he wrote is that the car was a project car and now being sold, he swapped the engine with a new one with 90,000 miles and it has 550cc injectors and a new suspension and an aluminum hood.
He's asking $1100 for the car.

thats the quote of the night.^^^^^^

buy it. rx-7's are going up in price. they went up like 2g's in blue book value. thats a pretty good price on the 7. what kind of rx7 is it? what color ext and int? and power or no on the inside?

c0d3_z3r0 10-24-06 08:18 PM

The exterior is white and the interior is grey and Manual transmission.
That's about what I know about the car until I get more info on the car.

idsigloo 10-24-06 08:34 PM

White RX-7??? Buy it now.

My5ABaby 10-25-06 07:17 AM

Check the body for rust, holes, etc. Compression test... etc.

The 550cc's should NOT be on there. It's only creating problems such as crappy mileage. Switch to 460cc (stock) if you do buy it.

c0d3_z3r0 10-25-06 09:08 AM

I just got an email from the guy, He said that when he bought the car it already had the 550cc on it, and it's not a turbo, He said that previous guy was going to do some work and never got around to it.
The guy said that the car doesn't have any rust but needs some minor bodywork and a new coat of paint.
If the guy hasn't sold the car till the 11th I'm going to buy it if it runs as good as he said it does.
But I have a question, What is a good way to get more power out of the car when it doesn't have a turbo?

Then mazdaverx713b why did you post this:

87 turbo= low impedence
87.5-91 Turbo = High impedence

Yet the S4 is 86-88 and the S5 is 89-91....

Mis-information helps no one!

c0d3_z3r0 10-25-06 07:24 PM

Where would be the best place to get the original fuel injectors for the N/A engine?
I found this: http://www.injector.com/ from another post here and I was wondering how many injectors are needed and where to get them cheaper.
And how will I choose them between high or low impedance because I don't know which engine it was swapped with if it was from a S4 or S5 FC.
