Why not to buy Monza/Pacesetter

Because it sucks. That's why. Enough said, but I'll continue.

I bought that system a few years ago when I got rear ended. I wanted something that didn't sound like crap. No, I will never get a mega can muffler, they're just not cool. And they sound bad. The pacesetter sounded ok, but LOOK AT THIS CRAP!

See that retarded y-pipe. Let's examine this... A 2.25" single, flowing to 2 - 2" pipes. Now, if you know your physics, you'll understand that as cross-sectional area increases, velocity decreases. :icon_tdow Boooooo.

So, after having this crap for years, and obviously dragging it numerous times because it never quite sat right, I'm going to fix it. Why? Because now I no longer have the original 13b in my convertible, but a 13bT! With a 3" downpipe, leading to 3" exhaust all the way back to the y. Where it splits off, 2" each works out perfectly. Actually, 2.125 would have been optimal, but let's be realistic here. I'm not about to ditch the entire thing for an 1/8th of an inch in diameter per side.

So, here's the initial mock up:

This should work.... :)

I hope it does. I've heard nothing but bad things about Pacesetter exhausts, no matter what the application.

ill stick to my apexi n1 fart can and prolly get an rb system down the road rather than monza/pace

I hope it does...

good luck with your progess.. im very picky or selective to not put domestic brand aftermarket parts on my cars.. they often dont know the cars enough.

REPU_74 05-19-09 01:13 AM

i think the rb duals sound the best!!!n/a or turbo....

drakeco 05-19-09 02:00 AM

i dont think pacesetter suck at all. going 2.25 single to duel 2 inches is actually pregtty solid ideal. plus they have a different sound, not ricey but not hotrod. overall i give them a good effort.

i actually went from pacesetter straight pipe to trust exhuast and noticed a lost of power. perharp the trust exhaust has pipe that is too big (going from 2.5 in single to 2.5 inche duel). and sounded much louder.

What did you expect from the cheapest thing on the market? "Most high" end exhausts don't have proper merge collectors.

That exhaust looks fairly decent to have been on your car for years. I'm not sure why you think it is Pacesetter's fault that you are trying to make their NA exhaust work on a turbo car.

KhanArtisT 05-19-09 09:40 AM

Still more restrictive than a single "fart can" setup. And fart cans only sound bad if you don't know how to set up an exhaust...a turbo car with a presilencer and a fart can is a fairly quiet, low restriction exhaust.

AGreen 05-19-09 11:14 AM

Don't get me wrong. The exhaust sounded pretty good, and I love the 4 tipped look out the back. But even for a N/A car, it just doesn't do any good. The mufflers are nice, but other than that, I gotta fix this :)

And everyone does fart cans these days. Even if it sounds good, I think it still looks bad.

Anyways, I'm sure the collector I made will flow better than the hack job pacesetter did.

I don't have any pics of the inside of the pacesetter one, but it's pretty bad.

Pace setter is pretty bad qaulity. It sounds decent, but the mufflers don't sit right.

Agreed. I think that's why so many people knock drifting all the time, because now anything that involves losing traction in the rear is automatically 'ZOMFG DORIFTO!!1!' And that fucking Tokyo Drift movie didn't help at all (I still refuse to ever see it, to this day).

I've got the same system on my car with a pacesetter header and cat-delete pipe, and I've got no complaints besides the noise. I'd like to get an RB header/ presilencer to replace that...

Is there much of a difference in just the headers, though? Like between RB/ pacesetter? I totally get how the catback's shit though...

HAI-TEK7 05-24-09 11:07 AM

Nice job on the collector.

Does no one else think that the 4 tips under the back of the 7 look a little out of place?

I do.

I dont even like dual exit exhausts.

Single exit dual tip looks best but that's just my opinion.
