What would you guys do?

If you had the choice to paint your car any color. What would you choose. Seriously I am doing a project in my body shop class and am looking for some input for a "survey"

Hypertek 02-04-11 12:40 PM

I like white

I dislike black only because of swirl marks, paint chips and freeway debris.

Grip 02-04-11 12:49 PM

Battleship gray

demonpoodle 02-04-11 12:54 PM

i think white looks best

though i plan to repaint my car back to its stock red.

rotordad 02-04-11 12:59 PM

A gunmetal grey or a dark purple were two colors I had thought about painting my car.

lol good list!

i was thinking about purple, but i might just go with the stock dark blue....

JerryLH3 02-04-11 04:11 PM

I'm 99% leaning towards the stock black on my FC, but am still tossing around the idea of dark green or dark gray metallic.

djphonics 02-04-11 04:19 PM

i'm fond of white on most cars. if i had to pick a colour, it would be white.

I'll keep my 7 the original colour though.

StevenL5975 02-04-11 04:51 PM

+1 for White

My car goes next week to the paint shop for inspecting and estimated pricing.
Lucky as I am, my FC is a white one. Repainting it in the same color by a pro
with good quality paint, of course clearcoat and a good polish after all, you
will be amazed how nice the paint will look.

Nothing comparable with the standard paint all the new cars rolling out of the factory
with their nice orange peel paintjobs today. Mostly they arent clear coated and the paint looks like
shit 2 years later.

I am not a paint specialist, but I airbrush here and there a bit, that lead me to buy
a brand new sata-jet 3000 rp spraygun with all the filters, to spray my cars myself.
Needless to say the spraygun is sitting here around still unused and the car will be painted by a pro.

artic silver / matt brown / matt dark green / battle ship grey

Tyler [S5 FC] 02-04-11 05:16 PM

White, Infini Green, Black, or Metallic Blue

ZT1NY 02-04-11 07:57 PM

MY FC is currently an off black, but I've been tossing around the possibility of painting it Gold...

Alex_n/a 02-04-11 08:10 PM

I'm painting my car a nice red. I think red is "sporty" and goes good with the rx7. some colors are for show cars like metalic and candy paint jobs.

the efini green is nice, I would paint mine that color but only if i repaint the entire car not just exterior.

Molotovman 02-04-11 09:29 PM

Metallic blue.

MadScience_7 02-04-11 10:19 PM

I went with Montego Blue. :)

Derekcat 02-05-11 01:00 AM

I want to repaint my "Royal Maroon" base/sport some shade of forest green [BRG maybe?]
My other car is black and shiny :D
Either one is about equal to me for a car color [in general I like the greens best]

I haven't seen any good Infini green pictures... it always looks black or blue or anything not green..

need RX7 02-05-11 01:19 AM

Claret Mica. Then add gold MS-01s w/ polished lip. S4 of course.

NatAsRex7 02-05-11 02:10 AM

midnight blue

Spirit-RE 02-05-11 08:18 AM

Dodge Viper snakeskin green.

daviddeep 02-05-11 09:15 AM

I've had a Blaze Red FC and a Brilliant Black FC. I loved the red one the minute I saw it, but now I prefer the look of the black. I probably would not pick black for an FC if I could choose any color because of the additional care and maintenance that color required, plus the fact that it gets hotter in summer when I tend to drive and enjoy the car more. However, black FCs really do look superb.

Therefore I think I might choose either red or silver. If I were to depart from stock, I think I'd consider orange or yellow because I like those colors too.

Aaron Cake 02-05-11 10:24 AM

Any colour?

I'm going to paint my Insight PPG "antifreeze green" as soon as I get the time.

Alex_n/a 02-05-11 04:25 PM

freshly painted cars do look nice in any color. Orange purple green blue red yellow silver agh decisions decisions.

cosmo7 02-05-11 04:30 PM

White

charlos 02-05-11 06:23 PM

It's one of the rarer colors, only having been available in the U.S. in 1991, and then only on NAs. That's a very nice looking color.

lamar- 02-07-11 01:28 PM

Thanks to everyone that has posted so far. Anyone else have any input?

Ignoramus 02-08-11 02:41 AM

There was an emerald green color I found from house of color iirc. I think it'd look amazing with some white wheels.

iani1.1 02-08-11 05:11 PM

I've always loved black and was planning on black or grey, but the paint on mine is in such good condition, the red has grown on me since it really shows off the body, whereas darker colors like black hide it.

If I were to paint it again, I'd go with the red on the Mercedes SL. I've seen it in person and it's really really red, if that makes sense. Not orange-red like the stock rx7 red color, brown-red or some other red that has a hint of a nother color in it, but red-red lol.

breckboarder55 02-09-11 12:37 AM

In 2004 I looked at tons of colors, and decided on winning blue.

If I were to paint an FC today I would consider:
-A dark/deep metallic red
-British racing green, but again in a metallic color.
-the flat/sharkskin gray on the new M3s

oh really? because my FC is actually brave blue mica and I haven't seen much of others on the forum or on the street.

you really can't see it very well, crappy quality. I need to repaint the wing & I was just wondering if the wing came in brave blue mica or in glossy black.

S5 rear spoilers were all painted body color.

tuscanidream 02-09-11 12:28 PM

You can never go wrong with painting a car black in my opinion.

I do like "panda" styles with color and black to offset it.

arsinal4496 02-09-11 01:51 PM

as long as u take the time to paint the door jams, and stuff like that, any color you like. ull always be able to tell the original color of the car tho. Alot depends how much time u take on stripping the car. Removing bumpers, fenders, door panels, ect ect. Also depends how picky you are.

Anyone know the paint code or the paint name for the s5 FC's that's came in grey?

There really wasn't a gray offered on the S5s, at least not in America. The closest was probably Winning Silver (1F) which was a kind of silver with just a hint of red mixed in; lots of people refer to this color today as champagne or gold but I think that has more to do with how the paint has faded and aged over time. Winning Silver was available only on '89-90 GXLs.

lamar- 02-11-11 11:30 AM

I would have to say a Green if I had to choose a color, I dont think I ever posted what I would choose
