I had a 2nd gen that was bridge ported and pulled up next to a civic. He pulls down his window and yells out the window, since my car is loud, that I should really get that checked that it sounds like i bent a valve. I rolled my eyes drove off and a nice fireball came out.

My parents always told me my car sounded "sickly" (as in, not good). That is until they heard Jay Leno's car (RX-3?) on TV and my car sounded the exact same way. Now they just tell me it smells horrible and I'm going to die from carbon monoxide poisoning while driving.

I always get the exhaust sound and door handle thing. My friends love the flames, dunno about the general public though.

one time at a meet I had my hood propped, and a kid pointed to the UIM and asked "is that the turbo??"

i went to visit my fiancee at the time (now my wife) at college and this guy with a beat up mustang 5.slow saw me warming up my FD in the morning, and he came up to me and told me that I should check my engine because it sounded like I had a bent valve....I said "there are no valves" then he says "haha, you don't know much about cars do you?" I said "it's a rotary it has no valves", to which he replies "I know it's a rotary, but it still has valves" So I popped the hood and asked him to go find one and get back to me when he did. I then walked inside and started watching some tv with my wife in the lounge of the guys dorm. He came in a few minutes later and sat down and never said another word...I just looked at him and smiled...and turned back to the tv

i was out screwing around with my tII and i was at a red light, this stupid kid in a ford focus 5 door pulls up next to me, he is starting at the light, i look over at him and he wont even look over. well the light goes green so i kinda do a 1/2 throttle take off than just hammer it through 3 gears. when i let off he starts flashing his lights at me, so i pull over to see what was up. as he pulls up he turns his blue neons on and has a big ole body kit and some 18s on it. this is how the covorsation went:

kid: damn your car is fast, is it stock?

me: just intake and exhaust

kid: well i saw it and thought it was just a rx7.

me: well you see that hood scoop, that isnt just for show, it is a turbo. if you see one of those hood scoops just stay away from it.

kid: maybe i should get one for my car..

after he said that i kinda just shook my head and got in my car and left..

another time i was coming over one of the mountain passes here in washington, and i see a suby up ahead. (this was right after i got the JIC Spec 90 Exhaust) so i get next to him and he floors it. so i down shift and hammer it and start pulling ahead, this goes on for a couple of miles. than i pull off on a exit and he follows. he gets out:

kid: Wow that thing is fast.

me: yea its decent

kid: when i saw you coming i thought it was just an N/A car

me: nope its a turbo II

kid: damn all i did was down shift that i heard all this noise and you were passing me. god that exahsut is loud!

me: yea i like it that wasy too

got im my car spun a doughnut in the road and left... fun days

me: well, i had it at 160 before i let off at 5K
them: HOLY SHIT YOU SERIOUS!?

them: out of a 4 cylinder?

then they know my car shoots flames so they ask for me to shoot flames
so i do, rev it up high and POP, out comes a flame
them: you keep revving it like that and your gonna burn the valves out!

i was taking my grandma to the doctors one day and she answers her phone

her: hello?
my mom: hey where are ya'll at?
her: what? i cant hear you. im riding in the airplane!

and she always says im gonna pass out from the 'gas' smell
(which i've never smelled ever)

her is one for you im in my rx7 and i pull up to the grocery store to get some food for my house this guy in a ford escort gose hey man why doses your ford probe have rx7 decals? so i stop and look at him and just shook my head in shame, so right when i come out another rx7 pulls up next to mine (crazy night) and the guy goes wait what is an rx7 so we tell him its a mazda and he ask is it a 4 cyl and i tell him no its a rotary so he goes how many pistons does it have i bet my escort can beat it and me and the guy looks at him and starts laughing, that was the most funniest night i ever had lol

I raced a honda crx in my N/A and killed it. Afterward he asked me if i had a 350 swap in it and i was like hell no. He then said that i should swap a 350 in it and it would be bad ass. I say... I just killed you with a 1.3L Rotary motor i don't need a 350 V8 and i took off.

HAHAHAHA, PWNED!

Technicaly, a rotary does not have pistons, but wouldn't the two spaces the housings make count as the so called "cylinders"?

Wow this thread grew pretty fast! All these stories are great- its just so funny what people say. I rememer another one from a meet sometime last summer. I didnt have my FC yet, but I went with a friend in his dsm. We see a FD there that sounded like it had a nice port and it had that lopey sounding idle. Of course the dsm owner says "wow man I love the way rotaries sound this one sounds like its got cams in it"

Ummmmm yea no not really but thats ok.

Being that my engine is full bridged, I always get asked what size race cam do I have..and I seem to always get advise from "mechanics".

then the was the auto parts store manager who said my car ran on "triangles" to which i explained they were called rotors and yada yada. and he kept me there for 15 minutes trying to pull up "triangles" in their data base

I was at a carshow with a couple buddies, we all put the RX-7's in, my car really is a piece of crap, but it's pretty quick.

Some decent looking girls come over with their bf's I'm assuming, and i over hear them talking:

Girl 1: Hey your brother has one of these!
Girl 2: Yeah, but his is way nicer!
Guy 1-walks around the engine bay: WHOA holy shit, he doesn't have a car this sweet!
Both girls" What are you talking about?
Guy 1: it's turbo'd, I bet it's fast as hell!
Guy 2: Yeah, I've seen it around town, throws huge flames out the exhaust.


Same car show, guy talks to my buddy and myself:

Guy: Wow, my daughter had one of these in the 80's!
Us: Oh yeah?
Guy: Yeah she had to get rid of it because she was sick of replacing the $900 mufflers.
At this point we walked away.

It's really amazing how ignorant people are about RX-7's, and rotaries ingeneral.

yeah man my friends still argue with me. there like you only have a 4 cyl. i'm like no its two. there like well tecnecly its a 4. i'm like no any way you look at it its a two and will kill your little protege and civic.
