I knew the thread title was going to cause trouble on here. I really shouldn't have worded it that way.....

That's all I really wanted to see guys, just some examples of RX7's that have been modified to perform way better than they look. I don't want to see stock FCs in poor condition, or with no engines in them. I didn't want to exceptionally ugly or slow 7s. I just wanted to see some setups that have more punch that you would expect. Even Jrat with the hood would probably shock most people.

Its hard with these cars though, most of them aren't in great shape, most barely run and the few that are in good shape are typically quick to start with...any TII with decent paint looks like a fast car anyway.

But, yes there are sleeper RX7's, I get a lot of people telling me how much faster their Berretta or Honda is than my FC once I tell them it's a 1.3L.

Hypertek 01-26-09 11:38 PM

thank you! that is a sleeper... A CAR NOT ASSOCIATED OR RELATED TO HIGH PERFORMANCE... A CAR YOU WOULD NEVER EXPECT.

FC doesnt fit in my opinion, because RX7s are known to be high performance vehicles, they are expected to be fast/or capable of.

Guys back in the day who would build up their non-muscle cars to drag race against said muscle cars etc..

fcdrifter13 01-26-09 11:41 PM

A lil more info on the car I posted. It is a US model mid 80s chevette with a HSR chevette transplant. DOHC 2.4l I think(been a while since I read it all), makes something like 240 some HP and not many were made.

chris sp1 01-27-09 12:13 AM

nice to see 7s

we tryed to get the sleeper look by overspraying the hole car.

Hypertek 01-27-09 12:15 AM

nice ic setup.. just curious tho hows it work out for you? doesnt look like your hood is vented for it..

chris sp1 01-27-09 12:29 AM

i need to get another pic it has a snake spraybar on the ic now

Rob XX 7 01-27-09 07:28 AM

there were a shitload of chevettes back in the day, the engine transplant I cant say for sure how many of those engines but that is the definition of a sleeper.

A FC sleeper would be on 4 lug wheels, no body kits or hoods, quite sounding exaust, no gauges out in plain site- thats about the only way you can hide a FC.

There is an eagle summit with a 4G63 swap running around here.

I don't have pics of the car -but for those of you who don't know they look like this.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...agon_Front.jpg

rumored to be in the 11's

once I'm done with the FC I'm going to do a sleeper project.

^what rims are those?

RYS13 01-28-09 08:19 AM

Looks like Work Meister S1. It's not my car so I'm not sure.

LoneStarS30Z 01-28-09 08:28 AM

I don't think those are Work's, too hard to tell from the angle.

stevensimon 01-28-09 08:38 AM

this is sleeper.

http://a332.g.akamai.net/f/332/936/1...da.mx6.500.jpg

i had a red sunfaded 88 mx6 gt that i put an f2t in(twin cam motor vs. single cam) with a vf22 turbo. if i could get even get the fast cars to look at me, most wouldnt race me anyway. out of the 3 years i owned it i only got into a handful of street races and didnt lose one. car did 13.6 in the 1/4 so it was decent

oh yeah.. the only way to tell if its a gt on most model years is that the window trim is black instead of chrome

JordanRykon 01-28-09 10:54 AM

i sold my vert BBS wheels to a guy with a 323 like that running 25lbs of boost and winning auto-x races like nothin lol shoulda seen the look on my face when he popped the hood it looked even worse than that one on the outside

sunburn 01-28-09 11:39 AM

I had a 1990 prelude I turbocharged... this was back in 1997.

http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b8...D550/ry%3D400/

not the actual car -but looked JUST like this:

classicauto 01-28-09 02:02 PM

There's not many car's I'd consider sleepers in here aside from J-rats.

But my definition of the word is probably alot more pure then most enthusiasts nowadays.

THIS CAR IS A REAL SLEEPER, AND EMBODIES EVERY ASPECT OF THE WORD - TAKE NOTES! :)

http://www.adamheward.com/powertour.htm

(the nova at the top of the page)

Also, I've seen this car in person. The roll cage is almost invisible (tucked behidn interior, main hoop is tucked in the b-pillars) and its rocking a bench seat with a mexican blanket on it. *THAT* is how you do a sleeper.

OH and the original steel wheels on the car.....the rears have been cut and widened. Yessir.

dawicka2 01-28-09 03:09 PM

^ok........that wins so far.

More info on it. Not to bog down the thread with a piss'd-on engine. But have to give credit where credit is due, and anyone reading this thread looking for a sleeper should look no further

Also, not sure if it covers it in this article, but there's some big-ass'd water/air intercoolers inside the fenders.........just in case you were wondering ;)

Turbo II Rotor 01-28-09 03:35 PM

I have a Hot Rod mag laying around my house some where with that car, it was the first thing I thought of when I saw sleeper.
