S4 vs S5 FC

What is the biggest difference between the S4 FC and he S5 FC and the turboII and the Non Turbo?

(Of course i know the differences between the engines)

Any Info would help.

(I tried to search but nothing.)

Thanks

beefhole 04-11-09 03:06 PM

S5's had automatic seat belts
S5's have more power (both turbo & NA)

S4's have a working temperature gauge ;)
S4's had a twin scroll turbo

S5 was not called the Turbo II
S5's did not have EGR's

After that it can get quite technical!

RotaryWeaponSE7EN 04-11-09 03:21 PM

s4 > s5 proven fact

93rx74lyfe 04-11-09 03:57 PM

S5 will always be > S4

Hypertek 04-11-09 04:42 PM

The only thing you need to know is that S4 and S5 owners will always be biased towards whichever model they own. Take that into consideration. Yet alot of guys love to put S5 tails on their S4 lmao.

Most aftermarket bodykits are flavored towards the S5.

2slow4stock 04-11-09 04:45 PM

Also don't forget that the S5 turbo is twin scrolled also.

Hey I love me some old school aero like yours sports and such. Just every piece you find is all fucked up and out of production. lol. But I love both S5's and S4's. I would kill to have an S5 TurboII but I love my S4 TII.

need RX7 04-11-09 05:39 PM

Most people will automatically nutswing off the S5. Really, it doesn't matter what you get. If you're going to do S5 bumpers and tails, buy an S5.

all the electronics are different, cpu as power steering control built into it on s5, front control arms on s5 have non-replacable ball joints, both front and rear sway bar links are plastic and diff design on s5, gas tanks are larger on s5, the gauge cluster surrounds are cast slightly different on s5, center console is different due to lap belt, additional speaker mounts in doors on s5, some s5 seats have additional tilt adjust, s5 has semi power locks, s5 "idiot light" cluster and shroud different, door harness plug in in different spot, s5 has door closed switches in the door latches, s5 window switchs are different, rear cargo light is mounted in trunk area of s5 instead of on hatch strut, obviously body mouldings bumpers tail lights and mirrors, key in switch on ignition cylinder different, cluster switches slightly different, and it sure does seem to me like the s5 is made out of "cheaper" or at least maybe thinner or softer metal. the body panels and firewall flex when very little pressure is put on them way easier then my s4. im sure there is more.

daviddeep 04-11-09 10:19 PM

Here are a few more:

S5s are about 100-150 pounds heavier, S5 NA has higher redline than S4, S4 LSDs are clutch-type while S5s are viscous, S4 GXLs had LSD while S5s did not, there is a black rubber spacer gasket around the plastic front bumper cover on S4 and none on S5, the colored tint band at the top of the windshield is green on S4 and blue on S5, the 14" "phone dial" wheels were only available on S4, S5s have an "anti-flooding" feature built into the cpu (holding pedal to floor when cranking kills the fuel pump), S5 shift knob has different thread than S4, S5 shifter has slightly shorter throws than S4...

Probably S4. It's lighter and some of the suspension stuff is stronger. Plus you won't be chastised as hard because S4s are usually written off as worthless anyway.

S4. S5 . 500Hp this and that..who cares. They're both alright, (almost junk) no matter what unless it's like this.

Heres how most people on the forum argue which is better... but it trully never ends.

^I was surprised how close that poll was

Really, neither is 'better'. It all depends on what you like. The S4 has all the old-school flavor, while the S5 is sleek and sexy. They're still FCs no matter what.

waldog 04-13-09 04:59 AM

The turn signal switches are different (S4 ones are better imo). The door panels are different the center consoles are different, rear view mirror is different. Steering wheels are different too?

jagass 04-13-09 05:10 AM

Thanks for asking this question...

sunburn 04-13-09 11:43 AM

I love my S4... honestly I like the bumpers and stock tails better then the S5... -but I'm old school.

unren 04-13-09 01:29 PM

i love my s4, and its REGULAR seatbelts!!! o and the N/A LSD

Tyler [S5 FC] 04-13-09 02:06 PM

The one thing I was mad about is that I knew the GXLs had a LSD, but only after I bought my S5 did I learn those didn't! And I do like S4 tails more, other than that I like the S5 more, its just way sexier

K!NCH 04-13-09 04:14 PM

I love my S4 (stock clutch LSD type ftw), but I prefer the body of and S5. That's why I converted. :D Best of both worlds.

rotarygod 04-13-09 05:11 PM

My first RX-7 was an S4 and the closest one to my heart. May it RIP. My current car is an S5 and with the exception of the seatbelts, it's an all around better car.

fredox19 04-13-09 05:23 PM

I like the bumper and tail lights of the S5 better, everything I like the S4 especially that you can put the Rtek2.1 chip on the T2 which I love :)

rksti89 04-14-09 04:12 PM

I prefer s4 over s5...i just like the styling better. the only thing i prefer on s5 over s4 is the tail lights and higher redline. f*&k electric seat belts...i like my regular ones too :D:icon_tup:

Black Knight RX7 FC3S 04-14-09 06:48 PM

I love my S4 gxl over my S5 TII....yes I do.

Electrical omp...fuck that, (doesnt really matter to me since I premix but I still give it a big F-U!!!!)
electrical seatbelts....does it look like I have fun smashing my head into it!!!!!
Viscous lsd.......wtf is a viscous lsd, clutch all the way!!!

the truth

iani1.1 04-15-09 02:54 PM

preferably s4 over s5. i like the kinda plain 80's look on s4's also they are a little easier to work on than the s5's but i can be wrong. and honestly i don't like s5 taillights i prefer the s4's, just cause it goes with the old school japanese style, and you can get like 2 pairs of s4 tails for the price of a pair of s5 tails. lol

+1 Whats the bodykit on that FC? its beautifulllll!

duo2999 04-27-09 08:14 PM

ive only owned one fc, which is the s4 vert.

i'd like to get an s5 just to see what its like. all the little differences add up.

im torn over the s4 and s5 tail lights. sometimes i like the way the s5's look, then sometimes the s4's look better.

S5 feels odd with the turn signal switches.

You should see my 88 vert with the S5 tails modernized.

http://i42.tinypic.com/2j5fmsw.jpg

They look way, way better in person.

lonetlan 04-27-09 10:00 PM

My S4 is cool and all, but my seatbelts don't lock up when you yank on them real hard.

Could a S4/S5 N/A FC3S Franken engine be "bulletproof"? As in reliable and strong?

Boosted11 04-27-09 11:54 PM

Everything about the s5's I like over the s4. I myself own an s4. Visually it will be an s5 this summer.

Doing that exact thing right now. Puttin in a 88 GXL LSD into my 89 GXL. That and my rebuild, street port, and SAFC.... oh yeah, and my new S-Drives. I can't wait to get my baby back. Hopefully by Friday, maybe Monday

Then I might love S5s way more!

SouthSideSlider 04-28-09 10:37 AM

i love both S4 and S5 but out of the 2 i would say S5 just has more pros thne the S4

GreatShamanGT 07-31-09 12:04 AM

This is about a 3 month old thread, but I had another question.

Are the fenders on the s5 longer than the s4? It seems that way, because the s5 seems to have a longer front than the s4?

Just wanted to figure it out. Thanks for the help!!!

need RX7 07-31-09 12:08 AM

I'm pretty sure they're the same, just the S5 bumper itself is longer. If the fenders were longer, the hood and headlight covers would have to be longer as well (due to the way they meet the front bumper), but I'm pretty sure all those parts are the same between S4 and S5, so the fenders must be the same too.

GreatShamanGT 07-31-09 12:30 AM

It just seems when you bolt on an s5 bumper onto s4 fenders, they don't seems to match, sometimes the it looks like the fenders come out too wide.

Attachment 709816
Attachment 709817

These are both s5s btw.

Renton 07-31-09 03:15 AM

The S5 FC3S is obviously a superior car. It has already proven that by being the best drifting car for drifting there is. Why do you think they used an S5 in Wangan Midnight and Initial D??

I rest my case.

Plus the S4 just looks dumb, like they were trying to copy the Back 2 the Future car or something, all square and 80's looking...

Yeah S4s aren't even FCs. They should all be crushed and any evidence of them should be wiped from the planet.

Renton 07-31-09 03:52 AM

The only car better than the S5 FC3S RX7 is the S13 Silvia 240sx nismo.

But everyone knows that.

daviddeep 07-31-09 10:11 AM

I think it's funny that the vast majority of people who prefer the S5 over the S4 base their opinions on styling alone. When I owned an S5, I guess I felt that way too. There are so many functional things I prefer about my current S4 that my mind has been changed.

I also don't understand people who buy a car from the 80s then complain that it looks like a car from the 80s. This makes as much sense as somebody buying a '57 Chevy then taking out a Sawzall and chopping off the tailfins because they make the car look "dated."

Even though both of those cars are extremely modified doesn't account for anything.

And if we were doing stock for stock I would take an S4 over S5. Stock clutch type LSD over a vicious any day. If you know anything about drifting then you should understand that.

I agree that the S5 body looks better, however.

KhanArtisT 07-31-09 12:35 PM

All of the points you guys make to defend S4's are retarded and I think deep down inside you realize it. Viscous LSD? Like fucking seriously? Whens the last time any of you dipshits even took your car to a road course or drifting competition? I bet if I replaced yours with an S5 unit you wouldn't notice shit. Same shit w/ the OMP (since most run premix) and the seatbelts.

Tyler [S5 FC] 07-31-09 01:16 PM

Disagree with the seatbelts, after like two days of the automatic ones, I was ready to shoot myself. I disconnected the fuse and now just pull it over my head. I'm 5'4" so it doesn't bother me too muych, but having to do it for everyone who gets in my car is annoying. I'm just waiting for a set of manual S4 ones. But something you have to do everytime you get in a car is noticeable.

Still, S5 all the way!!!! Even tho I got a S4 LSD in my car

MaczPayne 07-31-09 01:26 PM

I like the look of s5's, but love the feel of s4's. The early s4's were the purer FC's, manual steering, no abs, lighter, etc.
