My S5 LED tail lamp mod

i used some 4” diffused LED truck lamps. Had to notch housings to clear lamp connectors, and hot glue back of LED’s to lamp housing. Some fresh OEM gaskets and new butyl tape for lens seal. Polished lenses with some compound to get light scratches out and came out ok.

Nice work with the polishing. I not sure of the other work but the finished product looks good.

My first 7 was an S5, I alway liked the spoiler and the tail lights on those.

Looks good. Any heat issues with constant use?

Led

I haven’t seen any detrimental effects since the truck lights do also have a lens.

thread necro

doing similar with my lights since they separated over the years and got icky inside. however i got dimmable LED strings and am going to install a buck converter to lower the voltage for the parking lamps. one thing i really don't want is for anyone to falsely think my brake lamps are on instead of the running lamps. the default lamp intensity is just too much.

only 2 bucks should be needed to control all 4 circuits. last time i tested around 6-7v in gave a good mellow parking lamp intensity.

i'm not replacing the whole internals though, just adding halos to the stock guts and leaving the factory diffusers in place. i'm not a huge fan of the aimed turn markers being angled to replace the oval stock ones that point rearward. it may look ok for others but i'd always look at it and dislike it. i kind of wanted mine to look factory until they are on and that accomplishes it.
