I don't know why I'm obsessed with this project...but this weekend I'm going to try casting in self skinning foam. I'm hoping to get it close to the original. It definitely won't be as durable as polyurethane rubber...but maybe it will do....
I was thinking, maybe you could cast them out of rigid, cheaper foam, then the buyer could vinyl wrap/paint them and then make a "shield" that faces the tire. The shield could be made out of sheet metal or aluminum or maybe even acrylic and would stop rocks from damaging the mud flaps.
The cheaper foam would keep the cost down and I've always wanted to vinyl wrap something  let me know what you think. |
Not sure how well the vinyl would stand up to weather being on foam. I have no experience with wrapping exterior parts though.
^^^ not to mention you might lose the cool RX-7 on the flaps
I'd like a pair, even if its around 100$. It isn't even that expensive. Plus, It will save your car from rusting and getting chewed up (like mine is...)
Now what would be awesome is if you offered a whole package of the aero parts + mudflaps . |
Last week I received the set of rear mud guards I bought from n7k1. Fitment is great. Due to the fairly soft compound, I had to ad a bracket on the inside of each mud guard and mount it to the inner fender to prevent them from "shaking". Quality is near OEM, very nice!
Don't have proper pics yet, but to give you an idea: http://img37.picoodle.com/i54s/yence/x66i_fa3_u9mqk.jpg http://img40.picoodle.com/i54r/yence/1uar_282_u9mqk.jpg |
Dayumnnn. Not bad at all.
definitely interest in a set or two depending on the priced.....finally got my car running and been look for a set...whats the estimated priced for shipping to sac, cali?
yence, what kind of front lip is that? where can i get one? been looking for something like that as well....
@Mike: it's the shine auto lip for the S5. It fits, but it looks a bit odd in the centre, because the S4 bumper doesn't have the "flares".
When the heck are these going to be done?!
Rubber moulds are ready. $100 per pair front or rear. Playing around with some fiberglass and foam right now

How much will the fiberglass and foam set run? |
Any word on how durable these are yet?
not sure on cost of the foam version yet - still trying to find the time to finish the new fiberglass moulds.
BTW: if someone can find me a single S5 TII (non-phucked up) rim and ship it to 98230, I'll trade them a pair of either front or rear mudflaps.
I've got one phucked up rim and I don't want to replace the whole set. |

The OEM stockers have that bracket standard. |
How do I get a pair of the rears?
Local supplier of castable polymers that I have used is fibertek in Vancouver. Redwood plastics in Langley might also be able to help.
You can use glass beads as a filler with urethane. you could also make wood or rubber cores and support the cores with black delrin rod. I used to buy rubber sheet in half inch or thicker for almost nothing because it was the end of the roll and only a few feet long. Proper placement and a little hand finishing should hide the supports. Once you get the casting down, there are some additives you can use to set the color of the urethane. Red mudflaps would be amazing. Also if you need help with metal brackets, let me know. |
@TIITom: I can cast you a pair. They'll be just like the set Yence got. $100+shipping. PM me if you're interested.
@levelzero: thanks for the info bro. Actually, Fibertek has been where I've been buying my materials. I found a new supplier in New Westminster that I'm trying out. I actually already have red and white dyes to make colored flaps - but I need samples of the red and white OEM colors so that I can tint them just right. Sorry for the delay on these guys. I've been having some health probs that have been slowing me down these last few months. On another note, I'm headed to asia for a trip in November. I'm probably going to bring the flaps with me and see how quickly and cheaply I can get someone to make them for me down there. |

Hi, I'm interested on a set of front and rear mudflaps:.....Please let me know, |
Will the front set fit over the t2 front fender caps?
No, is not going to fit. Only fit on a fender without caps. Did you already have the mudflaps?
No not yet I wanted to get a full set but looks like I'm in the market for just the rear.
I wanted the full set too but I didn't have any luck with them. Did you know what happened with n7k1?.
