would love a set let us know how much IM IN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

n7k1 03-26-10 03:14 PM

the days are finally warming up so I can work in the garage again. I was unable to cast mudflaps because there was a sudden temperature drop and it was too cold to cast the rubber. Once I get my damned brakes fixed, I can get the Rx7 back on the road and make room in the garage. The molds are done and just sitting there - its just a matter of casting them in the right temp.

more to come...

Whats the news ? any updates ?

rotary#10 04-21-10 12:44 PM

Yo i picked up some of these yesterday at the one of the junkyards in my area they arer foam. A material alot more durable and more soild would be best. The foam just isn't really right for it but hey its over 15 years old. LOL!

How much did you pick them up for?

n7k1 04-27-10 11:49 AM

Hi guys,

I'm pouring a set tonight. I've been cleaning up the molds and setting up a frame to hold everything during the curing process. The PIA part is that my car has been in the shop for weeks now and I can't do a test fit...ARGH!

I'll post up pics once the set is cured. I'm likely just gonna sell the rubber bits. I'm sure everyone can find double sided tape, bolts, screws, and brackets.

rotary #10 - these new ones are urethane rubber. The foam ones disintegrate way too fast.

Arnomardi 04-27-10 07:15 PM

87TIIFC 04-27-10 09:35 PM

interested too, hope it comes out good.

Some good news and bad news...

Good news: the molds are holding up and I've poured the set

http://i904.photobucket.com/albums/a...edmudflaps.jpg

Bad news: the estimated amount of material needed to cast in urethane is double what I thought. The volume of the rears threw me off. SO...unfortunately, it doesn't look like its going to be feasible to hit the $100/set goal. Probably double that. If anyone is interested PM me.

Sorry guys. I'll post up the pics of the finished product in 336 hours.

n7k1 04-27-10 10:35 PM

if anyone has any other ideas of a cheaper material I can cast in - let me know. I could try foam - but I really don't like the idea. I tried casting hollow mudflaps but the end result was less than desirable...

rotary#10 04-27-10 11:43 PM

lol picknpull 5.99 each ! @ Tension
@ n7k1 the foam is way to soft and it absorbs water ekk ! Not unless you can get some type of silicone seal on em to prevent water from getting in. Also I think it would be good if, folks who buy em can get some trim paint that blocks or prevents UV and heat breakdown. Also do the rear mud guards have "RX-7" that your recreating?
LOL i had to super glue a few of the foam pieces back together and cracks closed. I kinda regret getting them but I'll just fix em up and put em on another FC or mines.

n7k1 04-28-10 12:19 AM

Ya, the rears have RX7 on them. Here's one the I cast a few months ago:

http://i904.photobucket.com/albums/a...cast_MF_RR.jpg

The ones I'm casting are made of urethane so there's no need to seal them or paint them - they should stand up to some wear and tear. I'm contacting some local suppliers to see if I can find a cheaper supplier for urethane. If there's enough interest, I'll make a bulk order.

illustrated_FC 04-28-10 12:35 PM

just let us know.

im still very interested $100/for the set, will be great. If we can manage to stay at that price.

Zerkster 04-28-10 09:48 PM

honestly the whole mud flaps thing is only cool because they are somewhat rare, once every had them I think the desirability will be lost

illustrated_FC 05-08-10 12:41 PM

^ word. Im down for some mud flaps.

OEM LOOK is the way to go

rotary#10 05-12-10 04:21 PM

so who has bought them and mounted them ?

HOZZMANRX7 05-12-10 04:53 PM

I am the mud flap king, at least for a little while longer. ;)

ashleyanne 05-16-10 01:05 PM

So what's the status of the mud flaps / price? I'm surprised to see that everyone else is as interested in them as I am, when I originally Googled the mud flaps, I didn't think very many (or any) results would come up. Yaayyy I'm excited.

n7k1 05-16-10 02:57 PM

The cheapest I can make em for right now is $200. I'd post up some pics - but my s4 vert has been in the shop for 4 weeks now! I'm picking her up tomorrow morning and will post up some pics hopefully this week.

puhpaper 05-17-10 04:00 PM

Did you ever resolve the hardware issue? Were you able to source a set, or did you just put together some aftermarket brackets?

ashleyanne 05-17-10 04:56 PM

What material did you end up making them with? And I really think that you should be able to rig some brackets.
