Getting s5 belts replaced, lol!

Mazda calls me (Guess they didn't remember I was okay with the car there over night)

The guy tells me something about a drivers side headliner broken but didn't describe anything.

Is that the interior plastics? He's like I'm hoping for one tomorrow you were okay with the car over night otherwise we can give you one to drive.... which leads me to believe they broke some of the interior plastics

clokker 11-06-08 07:01 PM

Hard to "break" the headliner.
Probably snapped the a-pillar plastic.

Ah those bastards

I took pics of all the interior and dated it before going there so I hope they don't try to give me the car back with broken interior plastics, shits mint :(

Omixeo 11-06-08 07:16 PM

They broke mine and told me there was nothing they could do because I signed something saying they didnt have to fix what I broke because they were installing my seatbelts for free. A bunch of BS.

KhanArtisT 11-06-08 07:25 PM

lol this is exactly why I have been procrastinating taking my car there.

Turbo II Rotor 11-06-08 07:29 PM

Take pictures with a newspaper before you take the car there. Anything they break they need to replace.

87 t-66 11-06-08 08:02 PM

hopefully they don't screw you over. good luck.

SouthSideSlider 11-06-08 08:34 PM

what i did was pull all the stuff myself very carfully then took it to them.

Boosted11 11-06-08 08:43 PM

Wait .... Why would you even take a car to a dealership just for belts? Especially an rx7, there easier then pie. A kindergarten kid could figure it out.

SouthSideSlider 11-06-08 08:46 PM

we are talking about the S5 automatied seatbelts they have a tendancy to stop wrking. and there was a recall on them so the stealerships have to fix them.

jmkogut 11-06-08 08:47 PM

Automatic belts are bitches..

20Bforme 11-07-08 05:38 AM

yep! too bad only the 10th ae's came with black manual belts though :(

jmkogut 11-07-08 10:02 AM

What more proof do you need that the 10AE is the coolest FC in existence.

rotarybeat1287 11-07-08 10:12 AM

^ No the Infini IV is... Sheesh!

cmanns 11-07-08 10:36 AM

I don't mind the auto belts, kinda like it.

I was going to pull the interior myself but with time stamped photos, I should be alright.

I'm pretty sure I woulda broke some plastics, it looks like what holds the trim in is those round plastic thingys, they have a tendancy to break right off, then I'd have to get moar.

Hopefully I get her back today :(

Edit

I had to take her in btw, one belts cable is hanging out, my belt buckle is broken and I use a screw to hold my belt in :X the belt motors are disconnected... the belt system has a mind of its own I could be in the car with the doors closed while its off and there'll be this ticking sound over n over from under the pass dash. Guess its a relay or something but man it'll click for HOURS, so I hope this fix's that. It is with the belts, if the keys are turned to on the belt cluster light will flicker in sync with the clicking.

God that fucking clicking, this one 3hr drive I went on it didn't stop till I got there

yeah same here... broken/missing half of the trim , it was chipped b4 thats why... :wallbash:

cmanns 11-07-08 03:30 PM

Mine's literally flawless.

I also got some stuff to repair the tears in the back of my seats.

Called mazdah up, should be gettng her in a few hours =D I hope the belts work good.

thank god they didn't make me pay for anything, told them the belts moving back n forth broke the thing the belt buckle goes into (was really some idiot wrapped my seatbelt around himself and when he opened the door to get out and the strong motors moved the belt, snapped it apart :|

Wish me luck that theres nothing broken :'(

Just for the record. Mazda only has to fix them once for free.

If they fail a second time they won't replace them.

cmanns 11-07-08 03:42 PM

DrKillJoY

Arnt the new belts better designed I think I herd?

I've seen other cars with passive belts older than my s5 and with 3x the miles, and their belts still go back n forth fine, I cant see why mazda can't make a good belt system lol.

Why do they only have to replace it once? The recall says mazda has to replace it for the lifetime of the vehicle or something in the usa because it's a safety issue.

DrKillJoY 11-07-08 03:44 PM

I haven't heard anything to substantiate that.

However I don't think they would replace a recalled item with the same unit.

Logic says yes, but we are talking about Mazda Service Departments here. :dunno:

DrKillJoY 11-07-08 03:44 PM

FWIW - Mine are jacked too...

I just cranked them back manually and then pulled the fuse. Done.

nah dude, its covered for the life of the vehicle, it says it if you find that mazda print out from years ago...

mine was serviced back in 96 accordign to their vin report, and i showed them that mazda hq print out and they did it

mort2002 11-07-08 04:05 PM

yea its not limited to one time, they have to fix it for the life of the car. my dealership tryed to say no, i threatened to call mazda north america, and my parts were on order within about 20 mins..lol

i have heard of some people that have gotten thiers replaced like 5 times..
Rob

DrKillJoY 11-07-08 04:20 PM

Well you were right, I would have been right a couple years ago.

I spoke with a local dealer about it here in passing and the service guy said they only did them once.

So based on what you guys said I just called Mazda N.A.O. 1-800-222-5500 option 4 (for recalls). The customer service rep told me that there has been an addendum added to the recall and yes Mazda is doing them for the life of the vehicle.

Apparently in the beginning it was only going to be once or it was never specified in the original recall and therefore they default to the one time only rule. The CSR didn't really get into all of that.

FYI the recall number is 68702

Awesome.

nitronatefc 11-07-08 04:26 PM

S4's and convertibles FTW +1. I think every car I have personally seen that was 10+ years old with power seatbelts has had the belts seized. Im not just talking RX-7's either. Seemed like every girl I dated from age 16-26 had a car with frozen belts :Wconfused Both belts in my 94 Hyundai daily driver are frozen too. Thanks to airbags for outdating this technology. I will say functional power seat belts are good for a teens' first car, as it forces them to at least halfway buckle up.

Also, some Canadian S5's have manual seat belts if I'm not mistaken, so the 10AE isn't the only source of these trim pieces.

cmanns 11-07-08 09:27 PM

How does the cluster belt light work, for the lap belts too? The new belts work great but the light is still on.

Oh and get this mazda says my rotors are "yellow" status, yeah my rotors are kinda bad then I read further on the free check up they "did"

Tires = yellow

Hmm mazda, the rears have maybe 400 miles on them and the fronts have maybe 50, how the hell are my tires yellow status LOL.

All Canadian S5's have manual belts, thank god! I'm not envious of you guys. Now if only I could get my seatbelts in my 91 to retract well again.

87 t-66 11-11-08 07:48 PM

did you get it back yet?

cmanns 11-18-08 12:25 PM

Yeah I got it back the belts work great cept the belt light still goes on n off randomly

Atleast theres no clicking sound :D!!!

87 t-66 11-18-08 12:50 PM

did they break anything?

cmanns 11-18-08 01:34 PM

Yes

They replaced tons of interior parts XD.

Also replaced BOTH belt cbuckles even tho it was my fault I broke one, everythings all shiny black.

Should I pull the batt maybe the cpu has the belt light shit stuck into it and needs the memory cleared? dont really wanna pull it though the crapomatic tranny will forget where i like it to shift :(

Seriously, a trip to the stealership and I got my car washed, new interior parts, working belts, and nothing went wrong, for free.

Well except one thing, I noticed on my hatch theres indents and paint missing every few inches perfectly which I've never noticed before....

Hypertek 11-18-08 01:51 PM

^dam i should have went to a different dealership lol they broke my trim and didnt replace it

DavidHolmesIII 11-18-08 01:56 PM

I have yet to find anyone that can work on my car without fucking something up. . . including myself.

haha these guys were cool dude

cept they left my car outside with the keys in the ignition for me the pick it up.

It;s a subaru dealership now, they still do mazda I guess maybe thats why their so nice?

he said it'd take 2 weeks to ship from J-Pan, came next day

Hypertek 11-18-08 02:23 PM

http://i35.tinypic.com/1190w8z.jpg
*thats not a parking spot lol* thats my friends 240, i dropped the car off and walked to the mall for a few hours then he gave me a ride back lol

DavidHolmesIII 11-18-08 02:25 PM

When are you going to paint that thing Hyper?

cmanns 11-24-08 10:58 AM

Oh.

Well the belts stopped working again =)

Fun.

The belt light stays on almost always, flickers once n awhile, if you open the doors the belts go up a few inches and stop, both started doing it. Then 10 mins later they'll work, flawlessly.

Word.
