fixing cracked tail light

1 Attachment(s)
I purchased a set of s5 tails that I knew needed some polishing but did not expect to have a large crack. Anybody have any ideas on how to repair this? Don't ask me what those spots are either, apears to be paint.

See, I'm kinda pissed cuz I picked them up on ebay, they actually came from Japan. The seller had them listed in excellent condition but this looks some kind of shipping mishap. Its my fault I didn't open the box sooner, I'm just gonna take the hit on it. I don't really wanna buy a new light though, I think I'm gonna try and repair it with some clear plastic resin and throw a light coat of tint over it and maybe it won't be too noticable.

Damn man that sucks, you could try an epoxy as temporary fix.

Why did you order them from Japan? Just look on the for sale section and buy another. You will feel better if you do.

glue and fill in the crack on the black part, sand and paint teh whole black part over again .. so you wont see teh crack, than spray the orange corners red or something, will hide the crack. I wouldnt tint tho, just doesn't look right imo.

I got a crack and chip on mine, worst part is that it may fog up on rainy days or washing the car.. Leave the diffuser lense in there, dont modernize them, otherwise the crack will be more noticeable.

chip doesnt bother me, i can always fill it in and paint over it.

i believe there's another helpful thread, where a guy fixes his orange section with a water bottle. Do a search of water bottle and tail light.

found it. https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...t+water+bottle

lol As I said in that thread, it was a temporary fix! It actually lasted a good long while... it was still fine when I picked up a new tail light.

As for a crack, a small amount of epoxy and a LOT of polishing is likely your best choice. That, and keep your eye out for a single light for sale.

I know I should have bought off the forum. I saw some in much better shape for less money on here. live and learn I guess. I'm gonna try this stuff out.

Luckily the crack doesn't go across the circle where the light is, so output shouldn't be affected.

dude if your gonna spend that money on that stuff, might as well wait til a fresh tail light pops up for sale. Just get some 2 part epoxy at most and just do a thin bead on it.

If you ever find someone willing to sell the lense, i need the left side since mine is cracked and you need the right side, we could go halfs if the price is reasonable.
