No they aren't. RX-8's in Europe have a 5-Speed manual option along with the 6-Speed

EDIT: RX7store/Rotary Performance sells them

HOZZMANRX7 01-13-10 02:28 AM

1. We're not in Europe. At the least you have to consider the not cheap extra cost of shipping from Europe.

2. Cut and paste the rest of the RX7 store story you neglected to post:

Mazda RX8 5speed Shift Knob
Price: $99.95

Thus, I stand by what I said in that "certainly less common thing and thus more expensive. " compared to $30 they show up on the forum for otherwise:

This was my point. They are not custom made. It's not any more expensive then the latest gotta have it JDM knob that people rave about. I'd rather pony up the cash on a new knob with the correct pattern than buy a used knob and probably fuck it up

I give up.

You should. You thought wrong and then try to still make your conclusion fit by playing the shipping card.

I've never said this to anyone on this forum before, But that insulting comment makes you most worthy.

You really should do your homework before talking out of your ass like that. Is the Dutch Mountains where they shot the movie Deliverance? If so, I assume you play the Banjo.

What something costs you is the total that comes out of your pocket to get it. Let me point out something you don't seem to grasp. There is a BIG difference between the cost of shipping domestically and international. The difference between the two is what I'm referring to you moron.

I'll make it simple, as I'm assuming I have to. Per the UPS calculator, the least expensive for a 2 lb small box package to Las Vegas costs $10 to ship. That same package to London per the same UPS site, least expensive is $82.87. Same cost from Berlin.

So I buy for $30 from a Forum member domestically, all in cost is $40.

I buy a used 5 speed knob from Europe, thus shipped international, all in cost is $112.87.

Purchase it from the RX7 store for $99, add the same $10 for shipping, all in cost is $109.

So it comes down to whether you want to pay 3 times as much for the same shift knob just to not have the 6th gear indicated. For some it's worth it. Others have other things they'd rather use the residual $70 to purchase. And others still simply enjoy taking on the challenge of figuring out how to swap out a $5 sticker then share what they learned with other forum members so they can save some money as well.

So, tell me again how I'm out of line in this case "playing the shipping card".

Sometimes I wonder why I even bother.................................

FC_EDDIE 01-13-10 05:42 PM

Damn Hozz laying the smack down!!!!!!!!

I agree 100% with Hozz. Why the hell would ANYONE wanna pay that much for a shift knob anyway  Get a used 6 speed one locally and live with the fact that its for driving purposes anyway and not cause you might accidentally try shifting into reverse thinking your car has 6 gears.DUH!!!!

If it really matters that 5 speed RX8 knobs were made, its cause you care more about your cars looks than functionality. If you're that anal about keeping any RX7 true to what it is (5 speed) , changing the stock knob with one of these fancy 5 speed 8 knobs defeats the purpose of keeping it original. If that indeed is the case, KEEP THE STOCK KNOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tofuman FC3S 01-13-10 05:55 PM

Dude, just admit you were wrong when you said the were "essentialy custom made" and be done with it.

I won't start a big discussion here to prove something you already know, the internet is not important enough. That is unless I might enjoy it ofcoase.

You really should do your homework before talking out of your ass like that.
Says the guy who only started thinking after he said it's custom, just to make his original remark astill kind of valid! LMAO!

Dude! I buy and sell all over the world all of the time, and I can get you that knob from the Netherlands to the US for somewhere between 7,40 and 17,45 Euros depending on weight. And that's not some dodgy postal service, but our national number 1 postal service TNT.

So, tell me again how I'm out of line in this case "playing the shipping card".
Read the above.

Well, and I agree with you. I wouln't care about such things either on my car, but apperently someone does... The reason I got in on this was for that Hozz attitude after someone else pointed out his fault. I enjoy standing up for the poor bloke!

MOAR INTERIORS!

HOZZMANRX7 01-13-10 06:34 PM

Another out of context reference. I hate that. Read my entire statement. Cut and Paste:

essentially a custom made, certainly less common thing . I didn't know about the 5 speed RX8 knobs being relatively common in Europe. But that doesn't change that they are less common in the US. Also doesn't change where I was coming from as to the financial aspects with UPS as a primary reference (and standard reference for most of us domestics) for shipping costs which is the whole root of the challenge.

Good for you that you have an account where you can ship for substantially less than UPS. Allows you to compete with the domestics on a level playing field. Since 7.45 Euro's is essentially the same $10 I was using as reference, I gather you will sell me a good condition 5 speed RX8 shift knob shipped for $40 and I'll be able to admit "playing the shipping cost card" was not appropriate after all. Better yet, make that two for $70 shipped as you should be able to get both into the same box. Just let me know your Paypal account.

anyone gonna answer my question on how to take it apart?
or just argue like little school girls?

+1 more interiors

FirebirdSlayer666 01-13-10 11:57 PM

Just to add, I would never pay that much to ship anything so small, which is why I don't use UPS. I've shipped two sets of tail lights in the same box to Australia for $50 using FedEx. A simple shift knob shouldn't cost much more than any domestic shipping. I will add a +2 for more interiors

Pfff... You know what; How about I help you add another way for you to get right? Yes? OK, here it comes: The Dollar is realy weak, maybe try to get right with that argument.

I do not have an account, am not a business of any sort, nor do I look for cheapest shipping. I just picked to first that came to mind, since I always use it (post office is real near to my house).

LMAO! I never said I could or will get you a shiftknob. I will look into it for every cinceer (I have no idea how to spell that LoL!) member who is interested in buying one and will gauranty shipping cost of no more then 17,45 Euros all over the world for the entire year of 2010. For that money you wll get upto 2 KG of shiftknobs and packaging. If you manage to keep under 500 grams I can even give the same guaranty for only 7,40 Euros.
