Let's generally discuss FCs

As the topic says, please discuss. Generally.

clokker 01-13-16 08:08 AM

Julius Caesar, George Patton and Napoleon Bonaparte all walk into a bar...

General enough for you?

MickeytFC 01-13-16 05:11 PM

FCs are cool

clokker 01-13-16 06:02 PM

That might be a bit too specific, try "Rotaries are cool" or even better, "Cars are cool".
We should try not to be exclusionary.

Rot005 01-13-16 06:29 PM

FC's are cool? Convertibles are even better with turbos!

JerryLH3 01-13-16 07:01 PM

I can certainly imagine that convertibles are better with turbos than without.

lastphaseofthis 01-13-16 07:09 PM

what about a convertible 6 speed twin sequential turbo.

i have the 6 speed vert. i have the seq twins on my 10th ae. but swapping the setup over would be.. daunting.

Generally if you own an FC long enough you take it apart alot, it tends to sit for a long time

Sometimes you forget you own the car

Generally speaking that is

This x 1000. My car is better than my avatar pic, but not by much. I'm still crawling towards a late winter/early spring paint job.

Wondering, does anyone have encountered problems with water behind seats with factory tops in convertible?

the water is an OEM part of the car

Thanks man, didn't think about that, if by any chance you know the part number, let me know I need it!

I believe it is FC01-H20. Hopefully it doesn't come up NLA.

I understand there's a company in Flint, MI selling inexpensive aftermarket water if your Mazda dealer can't deliver.

Ya, and if you buy enough mass quantities, you can filter the lead out and make your money back!

I believe that company went out of business and mazda discontinued the part, generally discussing FC's I like it! Honestly have a 91 vert with original top excellent condition, drain guards in place no tears or rips but when rains water gets behind both floor seats, any inputs would be appreciated! Thanks

I spent a good portion of last year trying to weatherproof my Z...it can be quite frustrating.
I do not have a vert but given your description, the likely troublespot would be the b-pillar area, where the door, rear quarterpanel and roof meet.
I'd strip out the interior, get inside and have your assistant spray the car with a hose.

Despite my "likely" guess, resist the temptation to focus too closely on where the water comes out. The trick is finding where it comes in.
In my case, the well behind the seats was filling with puddles but the actual ingress point was the top front edge of the door. Water flowed down the front of the door to the rocker, followed the doorseal/rocker trim plate past the seat and finally emerged at the back of the door.
Once I'd formulated a theory, I tested by cramming closed cell foam into different parts of the door>fender joint and hosing down until I found exactly where the problem was.

Turned out to be a rubber flap-type thing that appeared fine but was not pliant/springy enough to seal...of course, it is totally invisible when the door is closed and the fault wasn't obvious.

tl:dr is:
Strip interior and spray
Just because a seal looks good, don't assume it works

i don't get why people like verts, they leak water, they are noisy, they don't look exceptionally well with the top up, they're heavy, they don't handle exceptionally well, they're more of a pain in the ass than a coupe in parts, the top lasts only a few years in the elements and if you roll one you can kiss your ass goodbye.

but i guess nothing beats having your hair flap in your face while some chick is looking at your 80's rockstar hair and wondering who your stylist is.

Your tone implies you don't think that's a valid reason.

Hater.

RotaryEvolution 01-15-16 09:32 AM

i'd get blinded by a hair stabbing my eye, flip the car and land on a litter of kittens, killing all of us.

RotaryEvolution 01-15-16 09:42 AM

double

Molotovman 01-15-16 09:53 AM

Generally; I think the GTUs is the best(USDM) chassis and a TII drive-train swap does it justice(similar to an Infini). I've owned every model except for a "sport", the vert ranks the lowest on my list and T-II's are too soft.
