Help needed for a new clutch

My clutch went so i need to buy a new clutch... =(

Is the stage 1 Centerforce clutch good for moderate mods, or do i need a stage 2? Stage 1 has a 30% increase in holding capacity. And a stage 2 has a 60% increase in holding capacity.

Will this clutch be good for a daily driver thats wants a little more performance out of his car. Or do i just buy the stock clutch again? If u know a url where i can find a better clutch no more than $250, then let me know

I dont need a clutch that will cost me an arm and a leg, I just need a good clutch.

Thnx for ur help =P

I have the stage 2 centerforce clutch, and I am happy with it. It kinda sucks in stop and go traffic, but other than that OK. I haven't used any others, but I also hear the ACT is great. I think they are a little more money though.

There are a few things you need to know about clutches.

1) Centerforce SUCKS for RX-7s.
2) ACT makes great clutches.
3) Centerforce SUCKS for RX-7s
4) I have heard entirely too many stories of problems with Centerforce clutches, including one that came completely apart racing (in an RX-7) and destroyed the car by cutting a fuel line and causing a fire. This was a local guy that I know personally, not just an "internet legend."
5) Centerforce SUCKS for RX-7s
6) One of the TeamFC3S members just had a problem with a CFDF unit. It failed within a week of installation- the friction material came off the disk.
7) Centerforce SUCKS for RX-7s
8) The same person found that you have to manually align the "fingers" for the weights or it will vibrate bad- this was after replacing the above part
9)Centerforce SUCKS for RX-7s
10) Did I mention that Centerforce SUCKS?

Get an ACT. Ask Jason about prices... or just click on the RX-7 store link. (They sponsor this forum) Or just get Rotary Performance's street performance clutch. Either way, DON'T get a Centerforce, you probably regret it if you do.

I just went through the clutch saga, I went with a stage3 clutchmasters kevlar clutch, so far so good, it bites hard and has zero slip. I was tempted to go with the Centerforce, the cluthcmasters here in Canada was exactly twice as much as the centerforce, but I bit the bullet and bought the Clutchmasters($800), and I don't regret it. ditto on the ACT. I know a guy with an N/A and he's got Centerforce and says it's junk. Most of what I've heard about Centerforce for RX-7's is negative...

Lightbulb

Go ACT (clutch and plate)

After 3 centerforces clutches (two C2 and one dual), believe me I learned the hardway.

Go ACT and also get yourself a the stailess flexible clutch hose for better engagement.

I'm ACT equipped.

Thats the ticket. Thats the one I am getting as well. Trust me I have already done all the research you are doing and if you are going to keep this car in the street this is the clutch to get.

Goodridge makes one, I have the box that has a RR731 as the part number for 87-92 Turbos. I would think Jason can get it, otherwise Summit or Rotorsports Racing. I think it was something like $30.

You can get the ACT thru SR Motorsports shaneracing.com. I don't remember if it came with pilot/throwout bearing. Ray Lochhead answers the phone a lot (at least when I called) and will answer whatever questions you might have.

You can get the SS braided clutch hose from Rotary Performance
www.rx-7.com

I have the following, can chirp 3rd and have run this for about 30,000 miles so far:
ACT H.D. pressure plate
FD clutch disc
ACT 9.5# flywheel
RP SS clutch hose
The pedal engagement is the same as factory / engages a little closer to the floor

I just bought the 9.5# flywheel/clutch set from SR MotorSports about a couple of weeks ago. I haven't installed it yet however (I'm lazy, OK!). With the SR 9.5# flywheel/clutch special, it does come with a pilot/throwout bearing. I also comes with the counterweight and bolts for it. Not to mention it also came with the clutch alignment tool. The pilot bearing puller tool is extra though.

NO!

A 6-puck clutch is like an on-off switch. You will NOT be happy with this for a daily driver unless you are really "hardcore!" It's for folks like BDC, who think's it's perfectly streetable! (He has removed his AC and heater core, removed the sunroof mechanism and mounted the panel solid, etc. all to save weight) (at least he does still have a stereo...)

I suggest something like the Bonez street/strip clutch from Rotary Performance. I'm sure Jason has something similar in the RX-7 Store. Metallic "puck-type" clutches are very tempermental for street use... it's VERY difficult to take off smoothly without stalling or chirping the tires.
