ordered a 20b

Hey guys I am a student at WYO Tech and I needed a project for my chassis fab class. So I ordered a 20b to put in to my 88 FC GTU. I don't want to make tomuch power with it because Im still going to use the car on the road Im looking to make about 450 -500 whp at first. I think im going to go with the halltech e11 for the computer. I have a tranny off TII that im going to use to replace the auto. Also right now I have a Fluidyne rad an im going to put an electronic fan on it. The engine has not been shipped yet but I have gutted the car and am getting all the old wires out. since the new ECU only runs main sensors all the importent electronics are going to be wired to a new fuse box and switches (such as head lights and what not). I have a 60-1 turbo from full-race with a hot side ar of .82 and a compressor inlet of 4". I dont know if im going to try and use this turbo or not its a little small for a 20b. Im going to do all the chassis work in my class.

that 60-1 is too small! Also, you can keep the stock fuse block and all that, you dont "need" to remove it if you dont want to. also, the clutch is also gonna have to be addressed. im using an OS giken tripple plate on mine. you could probably get away with a twin plate, but I don't know for how long. good luck with the project it sounds like you know what's up.

yeah id like a 3 plate. Its going to take a year or so to do it i just want to get all the fabing done at school. Im going to redue the subframe and if i have the time ill cut in the firewall and move the engine in a little to help distribute the weight. After that Ill get a drive shaft made. I think im just going to rewire the hole thing even thought its a pain. Id like to know that all the wires are good and every thing is done right.

PLEASE read the sticky.

You're going to break all the rest of the drivetrain parts you don't replace.

The 60-1 is too small, and it'll probably choke at around 5kRPM.

Scrap the Fluidyne radiator idea - they won't cool the 20B for long, unless you never go into boost.
This is a custom project.
Really, stop looking at stock, replacement parts - find the biggest radiator you can fit up front and use it.

as for the diff im planing on a ford 9" and getting all the grears cryo treated. I left a lot out form the top because people dont tend to read really long posts. Nothing is going to be left stock. I dont plan on it being a fast project its something I hope to take my time with there is no rush on it. iv been debating on useing the fluidyne on the 20b or my 87 rx (due to size).

1600cc for the secondaries & the 550cc stock primaries are enough for your hp goals. Just make sure you get the old stock injectors cleaned and flowtested.

As Reted said don't skimp on the radiator since your going to be building lots of boost and power. I personally have the same radiator that Pettit racing uses on his Banzai Rx7.

I'm using the stock casing with a mazdaspeed diff and 4.30 gears....stock axles. and yea, the 60-1 is way too small for the amount of air the 3 rotor pushes. i have a t88 for sale, pm me if you are interested.

I dont know what kind of deal you are getting or got on the 60-1 but another option is to go w/ a dual turbo setup ht15 and 60-1. You might want to consider a t72 or t76 OR a GT42.
I know someone made 406@8psi w/ 316 ft/lbs

the GT42 seems to be right between the t72 and t76 size

I wanted to go with a GT42r its just a very pricey turbo but if I could ever find one for a good price thats the set up id go with.

Turns out I might have to move out of state for a few months after school and Im going to need the FC up and running. I might try and run the stock ecu and twin turbos just till I can move back home and get a job. Any one cut in to the fire wall and move the motor back? Iv been thinking I might beable to fit the turbos in better.

you wont be able to use the stock 20b ecu. it looks for too many items including the tranny sensors and if anything is out t will throw it in limp mode

I heard otherwise....

I was told that you need to do something to the wiring for the auto tranny...bridge them or something to get it to work with a 5 speed...

i'm not too sure though...
