Can't get the rear counterweight off...

First time taking off the rear counter weight. I tried pounding on it with hammer while prying it against the stationary gear bolt, but it is not working. My slide hammer is a little too big for the bolt holes. Is there something I am missing before I keep at it some more?

Also in the picture, I know I have the aftermarket eccentric shaft. I was curious whether what you see at the end of my shaft is expected. It looks like a cone. Just for full disclosure, I am doing all this because there's a leak coming from the rear iron. Thanks for any help in advance.

Put the flywheel back on so you get more leverage when hitting. Only do this if you have a soft face hammer to hit the flywheel so you don't damage the friction surface. Put the e-shaft nut back on a few threads so the whole counterweight and flywheel don't come falling right off when they get loosened.
I have a huge dead-blow sledge that breaks it loose. It's all plastic/hard rubber. You can use a wood block and hit that with a hammer if you're careful.
With the flywheel on there, you can hit at 12 o'clock, then 6 oclock, then 3 and then 9 you get the picture.
Also you are missing the small seal that goes in the back of the eshaft, it keeps the grease inside the pilot bearing.

Thanks for the reply. Man I put half can of pb blaster, new 4ft pry bar, dead blow, and brass hammer with no luck. I got tired and just ordered mazdatrix counterweight removal tool. The seal fell out during one of my blows. Nice catch though. I will take picture of what's behind the counterweight. I don't know what could be leaking.. A shop just put in a rear main seal and new stationary gear oring just a few days ago.. Still leaking.. I'm hoping they did it wrong although I don't know how. It's definitely leaking from behind the counterweight as I see oil oozing out from the pilot bearing area when I turn the engine over trying to get this thing off.

If you have some thick steel and some longer bolts you can make a home job puller to help get it off. and yes it is a good idea to put the e-shaft nut back on a few threads.

Wow, I owe you guys huge. If I didn't have that flywheel nut in place, rear flywheel counterweight would have dropped right on my face! The way I had my body positioned holding onto my heavy electric impact, I couldn't move, and that would have broken something or given me at least a black eye lol. I thought the counterweight would slowly pull out but it popped out quite violently. Well anyhow, I found the problem... The rear main seal had popped out half way. Weird.. I'm going to rtv it and put another new one in. I think the shop just pounded it flush with the surface, it looks like it should be recessed. Just wanted to say thanks!
