X-MAS Gift

My son's x-mas gift is appx 90% done. He is out of town; I hope to finish it this week. Its a big ass 13-B streetport built by SIDEPEX in Temple City, CA. 3-window bearing, modified e-shaft, pinned rotors, GSL-SE block converted to a 4port etc etc. I thought about keeping it for myself but I decided to do a streeported TII block with blow-thru instead. Here's a few pics of his car. Carb? dont know yet, I have too many options.

Lucky son! Lol.... I wish I had that car!

Siraniko 12-15-03 08:51 AM

thanks. the RX-3 is mine. he is getting the FB.

Tripple 7's 12-15-03 10:11 AM

Man thats a sweet X-mas gift.

GOOFYROTOR 12-15-03 11:16 AM

i think that engine can smoke the RX-3!

82streetracer 12-15-03 11:39 AM

rx-3's are the best, I hope to find one someday, there so rare now.

1984special 12-15-03 11:44 AM

Dude, nice gift! Could you also maybe adopt me? :D

And as always, the fastest car is your own! :p:

Nice job!

onepointone 12-15-03 02:39 PM

damn dude.. i wish my dad did that for me :(. i agree, wanna take me in as your own :D

brianw 12-15-03 02:57 PM

what a guy!

Siraniko 12-15-03 08:56 PM

Its cheaper to built him a motor than to buy a newer car and pay full coverage insurance. my son is only 14 and he will be getting his drivers permit next summer. He is already getting drivers training from me. Hopefully, by April, he will take drivers ed class and drivers formal training. This motor is exactly identical to my RX-3 but the "3" got the weight advantage over the FB.

The FB is in good shape except for a few minor dings and faded roof paint. if he wants a better paint job, he can start saving. He is good at that.

bouis 12-15-03 09:07 PM

Wow, you must really trust your son. No son of mine would get a car with more than 4 cylinders or 40 horsepower.

Siraniko 12-15-03 11:48 PM

yeah, trust is the keyword. Without it, he will not be open and will hide things from my wife and I. In addition, he has been exposed to the rotary scene since he was born. I brought him home from the hospital in a RX-4. :D. But just like everything else, there are rules that he would need to follow.

FD Racer 12-16-03 12:14 AM

Nice! thats gonna be fun. Let me know if you need any help getting it together before x-mas...I'd be glad to help.

Siraniko 12-16-03 12:21 AM

thanks for the offer but i just need to get new oil cooler lines from "the hoseman, radiator rod out and the old cooler dip in the solvent tank and clean. I will just use an old RR&R mikuni during the break-in period.

RotorMotorDriver 12-16-03 01:20 AM

*sniff, sniff*

I miss my car :(.

Kill No Cone 12-16-03 01:31 AM

Man that is sweet, and your keeping the rotary dreams alive!

elvisjer 12-16-03 05:20 PM

My dad is a preacher, and preaches agasint the way of rotaries. I am the hethanistic son of the pistonhead who has converted top the way of rotorism. Its the onlyway to live. Nice lookin car you got there!

1stgen4life 12-16-03 08:31 PM

Really nice car, I just get to drive my dad's 7, but wish that I had a 13B, and a 7 of my own. Oh well, I love the 12A in my dad's '80!

Mr_Rx7_Au 12-16-03 08:43 PM

rx'3s rock. and you're a kick ass dad

Siraniko 12-16-03 09:35 PM

Thanks guys. I hope my son can caravan with me to SS7 except we have to park in different areas.

Siraniko 12-22-03 10:34 PM

THE BLUE BEAST IS FINALLY UP AND RUNNING.
First, I installed a 44 mikuni, I was not happy. Removed and replaced it with a RB Holley, it was OK but not aggressive. Junk the two carbs and installed the 48 IDA from the RX-3. MF, it was sweet,

Now, for the downside, I have to get another IDA manifold to get the RX-3 running. Well, I thought I should just share my experience.

85rotarypower 12-22-03 10:42 PM

Not too many people know about the rotary where I live. Nobody really hates it. All my friends at school think its the coolest thing. They are just amased by the rotary.

He will always be a kid but why wait. I exposed him early enough (while working on my cars and shotgun ride) to at least know how what is involved. Besides, he is very well disciplined. Thanks to my good buddy Victor who owns the burgundy rotary 510 at 7Stock. He has been training in Gosoku Ryu-style Karate and competing in open and traditional karate tournaments since he was 6 yrs old, not to mention the Filipino Kali/Escrima and Pentiak Silat on the side. I hope that his exposure and training will make him a better person than me. We have a good father/son relationship.

PS...I always tell him that in case he brings home a girl, be sure to bring a woman for me .. lol

GOOFYROTOR 12-23-03 11:27 AM

WACKOFO, Don't forget me! I WON'T TAKE LEFT OVERS!

dirty86 12-23-03 02:17 PM

:spank:

sorry im such a dickhead

pillage6 12-23-03 02:58 PM

Hey Wacky, is your name Ben?

My friend David that got me into rotaries had an engine builder named Ben that lived in Puente Hills.

He built all sorts of cool stuff, the last project I saw was a bridgeport in a Datsun roadster. The license plate was RXRDSTR or something like that, pretty cool.

frode 12-23-03 04:02 PM

that's the coolest gift ever :)

pillage6 12-25-03 03:43 PM

Ben Laudia or something like that. Flip guy, really cool, his kid was into martial arts too.

This is some time ago though, I was just beginning high school, so maybe 1986-1987ish. He had a bad ass Rx3 and some other cool things.

Do you know James Nagase and those guys? Vinny from AEM that used to have the 1200? I used to kick it with those guys back in the day, I even worked with David Sung for a little bit.

Man I miss Cali, can't wait to go back in January.

Siraniko 12-25-03 04:04 PM

i know james and johnny, the powerhouse engineering guys. I grew up here in LA and went to marshall/belmont back in the early 80's. used to run around around in corolla's and old school rotaries all over LA especially in the silverlake/atwater area. to date, I tend to laugh since we were using old school rotaries to look for rival gangs.

look me up when you get back to LA. send me pm and we will hook up.

pillage6 12-26-03 09:51 AM

Sounds good!

Siraniko 02-10-04 02:23 PM

700 more miles to go on the break in period. after that, the car will sit until my son gets his license.

now im thinking about keeping it for myself. just wanna make you guys drool.

Tom 02-10-04 02:50 PM

Oh now that is nice! Who built your 13B again? Years ago I had RR&R build a SP 4 port 13B for me. I used the Mikuni 44 and always wished I went with an IDA..

I'll prob go with an all motor 13B 4port again when my stock 12A goes (or just have two motors on hand;) ).

Is that PCV valve on the oil filler cap? How's that working for ya??

(BTW- How do you keep this thing under wraps from the Smog Nazi's?? That IDA is gonna be throaty!)

Siraniko 02-10-04 03:17 PM

it was built by Sidepex in Rosemead last December but being so close to work (3 miles from home), its impossible to get the 1,000 miles immediately. Unless i take it outside downtown LA area but due to traffic, forget it. But i think i have more than enough idle time on the engine.

Actually, I just drilled and used a fitting in the oil cap. I havent done anything to it. Initially, I used a mikuni and holley 600 but I didnt like the way it ran. The IDA came off my RX-3. Luckily, I had an extra 48 ida and just bought a manifold from e-bay for $165 inlcuidng shipping.

Is that strut bar custom fabbed? If so, do have any write-ups, measurements, materials info you might like to share?

The car is beautiful - very nice piece of work!

Will you be able to stand the first time your son takes off with tires smoking?! :D

Re: X-MAS Gift

i tried to response yesterday but the server was in slow motion. the strut bar is a junkyard special. I paid less than $15 for it since its not even in their parts list. My bros and I have been planning to copy it but have to put it in hold due to too many projects. But if anyone wants the measurement, I would be more than happy to provide it to you. We can make the strut plates but have to use other material to make the cross bar as we dont have the equipment to compress the ends.

And yes, more than likely, I will need to adopt more kids since I need more tax shelter. Anyone wants to give me their SS #?

RXTbone 02-11-04 08:56 AM

I'd be intereted in some sort of measurements...

What would be way cool, and would probably be used by several people on this forum - is a shock mount cover template. If someone could provide a drawing, we could create a .PDF file that you could download and fab a custom strut bar yourself...

I'd think the crossmember would be fairly straight foward.

Just a thought...

... and I'm sorry, I'm not attempting to highjack this thread...

Siraniko 02-11-04 09:01 AM

please pm me your name and address. I will mail you the actual hard copy.
