WTF! I hate humanity

So my grandparents owed me a favor, I had them pick me up an Optima Redtop for me since my old battery died.

So it comes home and my grandfather and I put it in. He wants to learn more about my car. Well with him badgering me about the rotary engine and blah blah blah he worked for Ford for 47 years blah blah blah. I think I know what I'm doing, I restored this car from a non running paperweight into a beautiful machine over the winter. He's pissing me off having his hands here and there, and I just want to have the battery in.

Wrong terminals.

Battery terminal partially melted

Fusible link caught on fire, at least that is what I think it was.

Car is dead.

Fuck.

Where do I look for a new one of this thing?

A new fusible link? You might want to upgrade to the 2nd Gen's stuff if possible. And, out of curiousity, what's with the picture attachment?

Tranquil 03-16-06 04:53 PM

That's not a picture attatchment, that's my sig.

If you look closely in the background you'll see OnlyOnThurs. This is a photoshop I did of him.

Actually after talking to Nector, he calmed me down, I found this thread: https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/fusible-link-conversion-thread-443820/ I gotta replace some, and hopefully not a lot else. Gotta check the wires, I guess.

you might have luck at an auto parts store you might get lucky ( Advance Auto parts have always been good to me). Or a junkyard if you are hard up for cash.

haha I like the mcdonalds sign in the background

.

^^^^
Actually I don't know what OnlyOnThurs looks like so.........

And damn, I didn't even notice that that was the Golden Arches. What's next, "Where's Waldo?" ;)

Anyways, good thing you found that link. :icon_tup: That should work out well for you. Let us know how it goes.

Whoa that's too bad. Accidents do happen, so recover with your best effort, take your time, and get her rollin'

You hear about this type of accident on the Klick and Klack radio show.

When I had to replace a fusible link, I just got an in-line fuse holder and put a 30 amp fuse in it. Clamped on a couple of female spade connectors and plugged it in. Been a year now with no issues...

Yea...take it easy...life's too short...and it's rare that grandparents owe favors...I bet they did a whole lot more for you than you know...

Everything will be cool. My grandpa still owes me a favor. He died, but I'm still waiting......

Nice chop of onlyonthurs fucking hilarious

Yeh just be patient, it will happen.

Yea dont be too hard on him, he was trying to help and bond with you. Pretty cool of him to buy you a Redtop. Be careful with the alternator diode. Before you put the battery back in, pull the alternator and take it to the parts store and test it. Reversing a battery many times causes the diode to burn out IIRC.

Siraniko 03-16-06 06:21 PM

Dont feel bad. I personally dont like working when "pissed off". I tend to fuck up instead of being constructive. Thanks to craftsman, mac and snap-on for making quality tools. They dont break even after a hall mary pass against a block wall.

For fusible links go to Advance and look for their fuse section. As explained in one of the forums, they sell fuseble links for link 2.88 a piece. I use 2 30 amp and 1 50 amp. Part numbers FLF30 and FLF50. hope this helps.

diabolical1 03-16-06 06:31 PM

wow ... and you chose the username "Tranquil"? :)

Tranquil 03-16-06 06:46 PM

lol, I know, Tranquil. It just gets to me sometimes.

He's alright, its just his wife. She thought that by letting him buy me the battery I was going to die street racing. That set the entire mood for the day, everyone was just easily pissed off. A battery doesn't add horsepower... or does it? Maybe if I had an Optima sticker it would!!!

Well I replaced the links at the ass raping price of $4 for the 30A and $2.50 for the 60A. Headlights turn on now, so I guess I'm fine for tonight. I won't try anything else until tomorrow.

Sudox_E 03-16-06 06:58 PM

I did the same exact thing awhile back. It was raining, my car hadnt been started in awhile, and I was just anxious to get it running. Switched around the terminals, and next thing I know, there was smoke everywhere from the fusable link that went. It just took the opportunity to switch over to a fc fuse block and an s5 alternator!

bliffle 03-16-06 09:28 PM

Any decent autostore should have fusible link in a bubble pack on a wirerack.

Tranquil 03-16-06 09:37 PM

Thanks, but I fixed it. I went with the modern fusible links than coincidentally fit.

Tomorrow I'm going to go get an S4 alternator and that'll be the end of my electric woes until I have to wire a headunit in there.
