who does the best porting? Mazdatrix, RB, Pineapple.
so who does the best porting,
I am fairly sure I could do the porting myself but I think I will get more power from a professional job. so whos the best, I am looking for a large streetport. |
Paul Yaw, has done a whole lot of work in this area. Even if you do not have him do the work, check out his web page tech section on port timing.
|
Paul Yaw?! Yeah, he's got some interesting tech articles and Nikki mods, but people like RB have been researching and doing this for 30 yrs!! I would trust RB or Mazdatrix if you dont mind some expensive porting/rebuilds. I've heard good things about Pineapple too...

Yaw is interesting, but doesn't share the most useful privalaged information or he wouldn't make money. His (vage)info on flow bench usage is nice, but not the most useful to a home machanic, except on doing something stupid. If I were you, ask Mazdatrix or Racing beat, they are easy to get ahold of and usually pretty helpful.
Yaws data that matters isn't vagely explained on his site and is not going to be shared much with people not paying something. I've used superflow flow benches and acquiring data on a hemi-head and it is time consuming comparing differences in shapes and what not to see what works best flow-wise. Generally I'd say since I have dealt with both Racing Beat and Mazdatrix, they are good though for the home builder. |
Other The guy i got my motor from The rotory doctor is the best in my opinion. But that is cause i have one and it was alot cheaper than any of those listed and from what i have been told has as muuch if not more. damn i love this guy

Yars ago, i beleive...Rob was asked to do some "race car stuff" with mazda back in Japan. He never told me much about it....he was pretty low key on it. But i beleive he declined. Seems his 12a street port he sold to a customer..who sold to some else...who sold it to someone else...turned a couple heads at the power it was making. :) CJ

MAZDATRIX did mine. John the guy that does their porting did a great and clean job.

Jim Downing has my vote.

My friend owns Guch's Motorsports in Columbus, GA. He is the local rotary guru, that can basically do anything you want with a rotary.
|
I hear Atkins makes a pretty bad ass motor also. THey also have been in the rotary scene for a long time. Check out their site they make motors for airplanes.

I am very partial to pineapple. I live about 5 mins from the shop.. I trust rob to do all my work. About to do a new streetport with ceramic apex seals, lightened rotors and weber carbs. were hoping for about 270 at the flywheel on a 12a. Rob builds a pretty bullet proof motor in my opinion.
Have a bunch of friends who run ITA rx-7,s. they have all had there motors done by pineappple without a single complaint. Gotta give the probs to Rob!! |
where is pineapple out of? i live in pullman, WA, wondering if it would be convenient to get mine don there, or at revolution rotary in post falls, Idaho
|
Yeah, any of you guys know a good place in Baltimore/DC/Maryland area do ya?
|
Pinneapple is out of Portland Or. Just about 5 six hour drive from where your at. I think its well worth the time just to stop by and talk to rob. Loves to share rotary tech with you.
