Where to get wide wheels at?
 

hey guys, im lookin for some cheaper tires that are really wide and have a big lip to make the wide body look good. post pics and place i can buy the wheels, thanks guys.

You mean wheels? You can get tires in any size.

yeha, my bad. im running on a budget right now and it has weld racing wheels right now, but the wide body looks soo good with big wheels and giant lips

That is going to be hard. Budget and Wide Wheels don't go together. I believe Dan has about 3k invested in his wheels alone.

when ur financially strained, u have to do without alot of things and make do with what ya got. i'm having to make do with an rx7 and do without an rx3. don't get me wrong, i love the 7, i'd just rather have a 3. i forget the site but there's a site that sells steel wheels in the 4x110 pattern and they're pretty cheap. stu probably knows who i'm talking about.

what size are your wheels?

You can get Rota RB's in a 15X8 or 13X8 for around $500. You can go with Diamond Racing wheels. He can custom build you anything you want for a pretty cheap price. He quoted me around $500 for a 15X9 set. Keep in mind these are racing wheels, so street use may cause some issues. Only other suggestion is to put the wheels on the back burner for a while and save. If you want something in particular it's going to cost quite a bit.

+1 to diamond. They are cheap, light, and seem plenty strong. Plus, the amount of options you have are endless.

Just as orion84gsl just mentioned there is some cheaper options like diamond racing, but since they are not street legal I wouldn't recommend them. It's better to spend the extra money and get something that looks good but isn't a safety issue.

Jeezus is 100% correct I paid about 700-800 per wheel on my car (CCW classics 17x10 and 17x12), before tires. Going the extra bit was worth it in my mind, the wheels finish off the car perfectly!

I love the look of weld racing wheels, they are super rare man I'd hang onto them.

the welds are in pretty bad condition bc the car was sitting for a while, and theyre for drag strips, skinny fronts and bigger backs, i was lookin for some street tires that are wide, but if you guys are saying to wait, i prob will

ive been looking at the rota rb's 16X8 and theyre looking pretty good. might consider them.

also, for a 79 rx7, what wuld the lug pattern be and the offset? is it 4X110 or 4X100? and is the offset 45?

Bolt pattern is 4x110. 4x100 was never available on any RX-7. Not sure of the offset, it depends on the width of the wheel.

wuld the rota rb's work on an rx7 because the only lug patterns im finding right now is 4x100 or 4x114.3. no 4x110

You've discovered the most fun part about buying wheels for a first gen.

I'm most likely going to go with some Diamond Racing wheels for my car, as it's going to be an autocross car most of the time, and buying baller wheels now just doesn't fit into the budget. If the wheels are being made custom, you can get whatever size/offset/backspacing you need.

In 4x110? I wasn't aware that they were even making them in FB bolt pattern anymore.

i was looking at the rota's tonight and they just dont seem wide enough, i need like a 9.5 width or something, they need to meet the requirements of having the wide body so im gonna look around and see what i can find.

I have a local welding shop here that can widen aluminum wheels for about $75 bucks a piece. I think the guy told me that they can do steel wheels for about $50. It's been about a year since I checked, but that might be an option that you can check in to. Cheaper than buying new wheels.

It's rare to find a shop that can skillfully do that and guarantee their work, that's a hard process.

It sounds like your best bet to get exactly what you want (functional, solid wheels that fit the body well) is going to be custom, sadly. Fortunately, though, Diamond's wheels are very reasonably priced for something like this.

I second Diamond race wheels. I use them on my oval track cars and they are awesome, cheap and the most durable race rims out there. Not that durability is a huge issue with road cars... Anyways, they make 4x110 wheels in any size you want.

Note when using race wheels you must also use racing lug nuts. A stock wheel (and there fore stock lug nut) seat has a 40* taper and race wheels have a 60* tapper. They arent expensive, usually under a dollar a lug nut, but they are 1".
Using 40* taper nuts on 60* taper wheels will ruin the seat on the rim or tear the centers out. It isnt instintanious, but I've seen people do it and it slowly chews away at the taper and then either it wears away so much they lose the wheel and the lug nuts are still attached or more commonly the lug nuts back off since the torque ring cannot function correctly and you lose a wheel.

Long story short, get the proper nuts and you'll be fine. :)

i thought diamond wheels where made of steel and are pretty heavy. something like 30lbs even for 15's...

you could just get 2" adapters to space the wheels out. i had a 1.25" spacer on my FC for my wheels to fit flush. check out adaptitusa.com or even ebay.
