What type of oil?

I was tempted to put a synthetic oil maybe Royal Purple into my 85. Does anyone run synthetic at all, or that new high milage stuff I see on TV? Thanks.

Racing Beat recommends Royal Purple.

I have run Redline for the last 30,000 miles with awsome results.

block off OMP, premix, and synthetic. Great combo.

4 quarts Castrol GTX 20w50, 1 quart MMO.

Now that I have my OMP blocked off and am running premix, I might switch to synthetic, but I havn't yet.

Mobil 1, red top, 4 oz.s MMO every other tank, ,,,,,just in case....;)

The stuff has saved the engine twice on coolant failures whils on the road...:cool:

Thanks alot guys. But here is the big question? What is the OMP? And what type, 10w30 etc.....

DONNA 10-15-03 05:32 AM

OMP,, it is located at front of engine at the bottom, it actually injects oil thru two plastic lines that run to the carb, lots of folks dont trust them to do the job of lubeing the engine so thats why we either disable it or run a mixture of Marvel Mystery Oil or a 2 cycle oil mix in our gasoline,,,, can do a search to find out more,,,good luck,,,,
I run 10w30, just change at 3 mo or 3k, and most brands will be fine, but you will hear all about other great oils to use......but using synthetic with the OMP hooked up has been discused alot,,, claims it has problems, so thats why i just use dino oil and frequent oil changes.

OMP=Oil Metering Pump.
