a friend here in Atl. has a preproduction 86. its got some odd stuff on it. true 3 pc bbs vert looking rims, round fender mounted side markers, its got some fb stuff and some fc stuff all rolled into 1. she got it from jim downing(downing atlanta racing/ hans device) and jim i think got it from mazda, they sent it over here to the states. its the rarest rx i have seen... for a production car. Then I would say my 83 l.e. with factory 2 tone paint. Marron on top and chat. silver met. bellow the pin strip. I got her from the orginal owner out in cali.... had a dowel oil leak and a bad trailing ing. and the starter signal wire was busted. paid $500 for it flew to s.d. seller picked me and a friend up took us to the car/home and in 20 min i had it fixed other than the oil leak. drove up to 7 stock 7 i think then back to denver. shes now sleeping under a cover with no motor but i have a huge stack of stuff to go in it... microtech, fmic, to4, blah blah blah

yeah we know them and the car. engine is actually the same as the gslse. and ur aware this is an old thread right? originally started 5 yrs ago.

Honestly I dream of having the front wheel drive 13A. Or a AWD 12A car to come about some day.

I'll tell you what's rare.....a finished project! LOL! I started mine back in late 04 and I'm still waiting for the "ever elusive" 1st start up. I can't wait to make my neighbors think that a cessna is going to crash into their living room!

What about the 65 Mustang that had a rotary dropped in it in 65. Still exists to this day. Kinda forgotten but still here

I'd love to see that preproduction '86. I have the first volume RX-7 book by Jack K. Yamaguchi, and there are some pictures of some pretty weird preproduction FC's in it. One was a test car that they drove here in america to test things like the suspension and steering I believe. It had a GSL-SE radio in it, but there were no pictures of the engine. I've never seen any FC RX-7's from pre-'86 with BBS style rims but one of the pictures in the book has one with 300ZX wheels on it though.

I can back all this up with my book and the scanner.

Oh and if I had to pick a rare rotary, it would be the MX-03. 13GT power FTW! Or the 3 rotor RX-7 concept car. (Sorry, only have one pic of the MX-03; just the interior.)

And the 13G was a 3 rotor, right? The 13 confuses me... Makes me think it should be a 2 rotor. :scratch:

yes 13G is a 3 rotor. just as confusing the 13J and 13J-M are 4 rotors...

actually since that motor in the FC has an FC style intake, its probably an early 20B prototype.

the 13G is the racing engine, so its peripheral port, its also got a different transmission bolt pattern for the race cars, and stuff like that

Yeah I knew the engine in the MX-03 was a 3 rotor. 13G just didn't sound right in my head. I don't see anywhere in the book where it says "13G", but it has to be since it was made before the 20B was even developed. It does have side port intake though, so maybe it is the precursor to the 20B.

According to the book the MX-03 engine is the same external size as the 13B. It's turbocharged (and intercooled), with a twin scroll turbo- just like the FC, but it has a ceramic coated turbine. The engine also has rotor housings with ceramic inserts instead of chromed steel, ceramic exhaust port inserts, aluminum rotors with ceramic chambers and cast-in iron seal bearing surfaces. It also has ceramic two piece apex seals, solid ceramic corner seals, and a dry sump oil system. They claim 320 BHP at 7000 RPM, and 290 lb-ft, with no specified RPM for the torque.

The MX-03 also has a drag coefficient of .25, four seats, no air bags, 4 wheel steering (with a fail safe), all wheel drive with adjustable front/rear torque split (variable center differential), a heads up display, ABS, and will do 182 MPH. Pretty advanced for 1985.

Oh and did I mention it was a fully functional concept car? :yum:

PS: I know nothing about the silver 3 rotor FC though. :dunno:

neat, i didn't really know that about the mx-03.

the FC prototype might use that engine, but in NA form. it actually was here in america too, they let i think motor trend drive it.

its not a road test, so no numbers, but um they liked it!
