What is the rarest or most unusual rotary?
 

I postedthis here because this is my home page, but what is the rarest rotary powered car built.

My vote; Mazda Roadpacer http://www.mazda.com/history/rotary/g2-6.html

I remember these being built when I was a kid in Australia, never got to see one with a rotary though.

I would say that bus. Otherwise, as far as rarest, I'd say a WORKING NSU Ro-80.

I don't know if you're limiting it to production vehicles, but my favorite rare rotary is the Mercedez-Benz C111

3 rotor, peripheral ported, mid mounted engine in a mercedez with gulwing doors :drool:

10A is real,came before the 12A and was used in the Cosmo Sport (among others),which is a pretty rare Mazda car from the early years.

The Road Pacer looks vaugely like a Cosmo RX-5 and came out around the same time.Thats probably the rarest Mazda rotary car in the US,but if you wanna talk any brand or any type(production or prototype) then there are lots and lots of 1-2 off factory rotary cars that are uber-rare.

the 4 rotor 787b gets my vote..

The Mercedez-Benz C111 has been mentioned. What about the rotary powered prototypes,with 2 and 4 rotor engines, that GM designed in the 70s?

Damn that RE 5 was sweet. It was only a single rotor though. I'd like to see one with a twin rotor 12A, or even a 3 rotor 20B or what about.......................a 20G? I dare say a motorcycle with a 20G would be faster than the Dodge Tomahawk. Gives me chills LOL

The Suzuki RE5's engine was liquid cooled and produced 45hp. Don't quote me on this but someone told me that some high end BMW motorcycles also have rotary engines, but I have yet too see anything to verify what I was told.

I think you were mis-informed.I believe the BMW F650GS used a Rotax engine which is not a rotary,but a brand name.I am not sure if the F650GS is still using the rotax anymore,but it may be.The F650GS is,or was BMW's entry level bike,and is a dual sport bike.It was/is also the only BMW in there current lineup that uses a chain drive.Every other BMW uses a drive-shaft.

The RE5,while unique,isnt much to write home about.It has typical fugly 70's styling and is rather slow.

My fav. still is the 13B powered jetski.I dont know if he ever got around to it,but the same guy was planning on a 13BT version.....as if the N/A ski wasnt fast enough!!

Oh yea,and the 20B turbo jet boat is pretty sweet too!

There was actually a motor cycle that used a rotary design to make a turbo charger, and they captured the world land speed record wth that.........in the 70's of course.

R130's are pretty damn rare. The Parkway Bus is definitely the rarest though.
