Accel 300+ race series

peejay 07-26-02 11:40 AM

i just used the same junk that was already there (Bosch something or other cheapo wires) No problems.

RotorMotorDriver 07-26-02 06:38 PM

I have Accel 300+ Thundersports, and they smoothed out my idle a little with the stock ignition setup. Although I've heard that the MSD heli-coils or whatever work well too.

There is a special set of these for the the rotary. However, I can't find a good picture of them on the net.

Anybody care to help?

The Monel conductor in the MSD set doesn't last as long as the 300+. I've had both types...the 300+ set has stayed flexible longer and didn't discolor which is a sign of heat, aka. electrical resistance, in the wire. That said, the MSD set is still on my Parents' '85 GSL...I just wouldn't run another set on my personal rex...

Ummm...There is? I just knew that you had to special order them because none of the shelf boxes have two ignition coil wires in them...Or they are gonna be the wrong lengths. Other than that, I didnt know there was anything special about them...So as far as a picture Im sure that the picture for a set for a different car would be basically the same.

For Rotary Engines: (out of the Accel catalog)

Accel 300+ Thundersport
Part Number: 7930,
Available in Blue, Red or Yellow

RotorMotorDriver 07-26-02 09:08 PM

Ok, now Im starting to worry...When I ordered the wires for my car, I just went into the store and said I need Accel wires for my car, part number such and such. The part number I gave them is the part number someone here on the forum said was for the 12A. I have the wires, and theyre installed and work great (they only have like 20 minutes on them :)), but in a catalog I have, it lists different part numbers for the different cars, and different prices too...Do they actually use different types of wire for different applications? I thought it was all the same stuff? Heres what I have in my catalog...

Accel 300+ Thundersports

74-78 (1.3L 13B 1308cc) - #7930 $30.99
71-78 (1.1L 12A 1146cc) - #7930 $30.99
93-96 (1.3L RE13BTT 1308cc) - #7932 $26.99
87-92 (1.3L 13BET 1308cc) - #7931 $29.99
86-92 (1.3L 13B 1308cc) - #7931 $29.99
84-85 (1.3L 13B 1308cc) - #7930 $30.99
79-85 (1.1L 12A 1146cc) - #7920 $52.99
(add Y,R, or B at the end of the part number for Yellow, Red, Or Blue. Example, 7930Y)

Ok, I ordered the 7930Y, and got them for like $30 at B&B. Anyway, the REAL wires I should have ordered were the 7920Y, but theyre like $20 more also...I dont get it...Maybe it has something to do with points instead of electronic ignition...

Felix Wankel 07-26-02 09:12 PM

No. 79's had points too.

RotorMotorDriver 07-26-02 09:15 PM

Good call Felix...Whats the dilly-yo then? Just tryin to get more money cause the newer cars are more common so they jack up the price?

minocqa 07-29-02 10:07 PM

hey thanks for your help.
do you know a reliable place to order form?
thanks again
Don

riffraff 07-30-02 12:48 PM

what about the jacobs wires? will those work as well?

RotorMotorDriver 07-30-02 01:39 PM

I've heard of people running them, but I couldnt tell you how well they work...

~T.J.

Hyper4mance2k 07-30-02 06:48 PM

is there a set that anyone uses for the direct fire msd set up?? cause you need 2 from coil to Lplugs and 1 from coil to dist and 2 from dist to Tplugs??? right now i've got mega spark or thunder spark what ever they are.. they're the brant action auto carries like 7.5mm i think...

mar3 07-30-02 11:37 PM

The Accel 300+ race series has a universal kit fo V8's. More than enough wire to set up a DLIDFIS system, but you'll have to order two more coil boots. They may be just sitting on the wall at your local O'Reilly's, for that matter...

I have the Jacobs on my GSL-SE. I like them.

I also have the 6A and direct fire setup. Not impressed.

The early 12a engines had two, yes (2), distributors, one for trailing and one for leading. The wires you ordered are for that setup.

inittab 07-31-02 07:54 AM

Where on the net is a good place to order some Accel 300+ Thundersports? TIA

RotoHusker 07-31-02 07:58 AM

You might want to look over some of the tech info on ignigion wires on the Magnecor site before you purchase.

Only until 1974. I don't know why they list it up until 1978.

MIKE-P-28 07-31-02 04:23 PM

Im gonna run custom made Taylor wires on mine.. They were like 35 bucks and I know at 8.8 mm is gonna be better than stock. Although you gotz to have the tool for crimping them...
