what mufflers do you run?
im looking for something loud. i would straight pipe it, but i dont want it to sound like a tractor lol. i have a nice quiet daily driver so i want this thing to make some noise.
i like the way this looks, but im sure its poor quality. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/3-Exh...1%7C240%3A1318 |
Don't get that. I have the black version of it. Had it for about 5 months before it rusted a hole through it.
Go Borla. My car:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMEMkpTTLIw |
was yours stainless? how did stainless rust. lol ebay.
|
i only use Racing Beat for aftermarket mufflers.
|
stock. its almost loud enough as is
|
mine sounds really raspy/bumble beeish. it has some custom exhaust with a stock looking muffler. i miss having a loud ass exhaust.
|
Right now my current setup consists of the following:
Racing Beat road race headers 2x Apexi pre-silencers Racing Beat street port primaflow muffler This is a true dual setup from headers to muffler. Sounds good, looks stock, but a bit too quiet for my taste. Going to drop the RB muffler with something louder and replace the pre-silencers with dynomax bullet ones. Possibly go headers to Y to straight 2.5" or 3" with 2x bullet pre-silencers one after another. |
I have the full RB street port on my street car. Sounds great!
On my Autocross car I have a Borla stainless 3" muff hooked to an RB road race header and then turndowns.....Lound as fuck and obnoxious! |
Open header ftw!!! I had header to 3 inch straight pipe to fart can for awhile. I liked it, but too loud. I'm running header to RB mini silencer to OEM connecting pipe to RB power pulse muffler. Sounds smooth, deep, and a hair louder than stock. I'm running gutted cats 2 1/2 inch Y pipe to Mazdaspeed mufflers on my FC. That's where it's at :D
|
Is your only goal to be loud? WHY?!? To be known as the asshole who annoys everyone in town? Give you and your car a bad name? dumb redneck
If you must be obnoxious, get yourself the new RotaryShack SS header or a RB SP header and just do a downward facing dump. It will make your car obnoxiously loud, and will fumigate you in the process. |
contemplating putting a 3" dumpy on my car
|
The stock muffler is loud enough, just eliminate the cat.
|
I'm planning on getting an exhaust fabbed with RB SP header, RB presilencer, then 3" back to a borla. Gonna have a section of pipe emptying out behind the front wheel with an electronically controlled valve to bypass the rest of the system of fun at street lights.:)
|
super sweet setup..RB header to RB presilencer 2.75in pipe to a RB second gen muffler just fab it up..sound's effen awwsome on a first gen.
:AA: |
i have stock header with guted cat and stock muffler. my friend has everything stock but not the muffler he has a fart can and you can hear him from 6 blocks away but sounds nice.
|
open downpipe, LOL. Its loud, but its not nearly as loud as i thought it would be

If you are stuck on a Borla, at least get one that only has a straight pipe through it with no bends, because they use crush-bent pipe. At least, they did for mine.
|
For the heck of it I put a 3A Racing straight through muffler on my racecar - the 4" outlet looks scary to my competitors. I picked it up at Autozone for $60 and it is polished stainless with a 2.5" inlet, 2.5" core that opens to a 4" outlet. My exhaust consists of a Stainless ISC header that connects to a long primaries that collect at the rear axle into a single 2.5" pipe.
It has a deep tone at idle and is fairly quiet. Rev'd up it get allot louder and at 8K RPMs it positively screems. Probably not what I would run on the street - I thought it was loud with a full face helmet on. |

I'm running RB road race header collected and straight piped back to an RB power pulse muffler. Sounds beautiful when the secondaries open up but very mild around town. If RotaryShack produces a Rotaflo like muffler I will definitely pick one up.

If you run your car with the carb tuned for a full exhaust... and then have a dumpy at the end of the header you will run lean near top end. |

Magna Flow all the way.
Summit racing. SS packed, won't wear our like Fiber filled. |

It will make your car obnoxiously loud, and will fumigate you in the process. Leave it to the douche from Michigan to make a worthless post. It never fails. My car has an 18-20 inch resonator in front of th axel thats going to stay on, and im thinking of putting a Y pipe after the axel with 2 stainless resonators and stock looking tips. Thanks for the usefull info, and the humorous usless info. I'm still interested in what everyone else is running. |
remember Cody, the louder the car is, the worse it is to drive on the highway for long distances. racing beat (www.racingbeat.com) makes the best quality exhaust parts around for the 7. and you can have your loud without having your ear drums melt.
|
oh i know about loud cars. my last first gen was straight piped to a fart pipe. it was terrible lol. my 04 mustang gt had flowmasters. it sounded amazing. the car is actually loud enough as is, but it really sounds like a loud ass buzzing bee. it sounds almost like an exhaust leak out the tail pipe. its really hard to explain the sound of a car over the internet, but trust me, its not good. i guess i sounded to enthusiastic over it just being loud, but i want a smooth sounding hum thats loud. not a rasp or buzz.
|
I have an rb header to strait pipe (not sure of diameter) to an apex'i dunk. I'm sooo surprised I haven't been pulled over (knock on wood). But been followed for some time. I did not buy the dunk it was on my lancer. I'll buy a good muffler and a pre silencer eventually. I had a Honda tell me he was at 112 db w/ an open exhaust no muffler. I was much louder. I'm nervous about revving to red line because cops will hear me.
|
mine is some crappy header into 3" pipe into a glasspack and a borla. it sounds pretty good, but its too loud
it was a tad quieter than the stock manifold into a glasspack and a turndown before the axle not sure what the next setup will be, it needs to be quieter though |
RB road Race header, high flow 2-into-one collector, custom straight pipe, RB power pulse muffler.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuvrhTXezPw |
don't use the stock muffler... They sound terrible.Whistly and metallic.
|
Dynatech split flow!! Racing beat street header immediately into the dynatech followed by 2.25'' piping to a 10'' ebay special dump tip muffler that exits right at the rear valence. Both mufflers are SS packed and damn good quality, which especially good considering the dump tip was an ebay special.

my turbo sounded great with 3-inch back to a magnaflow straight through. Very sweet howl at redline, like an old carb'd v12 but slightly less refined.
now with the bigger turbo and SS header I'm running open downpipe till I can get to the exhaust shop, it's bad, terrible really, but not ear bleeding loud. |
Had Gutted cat, straight piped cat, stock cat with pick up tube, with a 3" out the back, sounded gorgeous, dear God i miss it, now iv got Racing Beat streetable header, 2.5 inch cat delete pipe with a fabbed up pick up tube into stock muffler, sounds like a louder stock set up with no muffler... =( really makes me sad cuz i miss my old sound but this has way more power and is faster so.... gotta make sacrifices i guess
|
Custom stainless headers, Thrush 3" glasspack, and 3" medium tone Magnaflow muffler, it's PLENTY loud, but the thrush helps cut down the metallic sound so characteristic of the magnaflows so it really sounds good. Everyone tells me it's hard to tell it apart from a hyaboosa crotch rocket (except that mine's faster haha). Of course It's running a half bridgeport so that changes the sound a bit too.

magnaflow magnaflow magnaflow magnaflow magnaflow magnaflow magnaflow magnaflow magnaflow magnaflow magnaflow magnaflow magnaflow magnaflow magnaflow magnaflow magnaflow magnaflow magnaflow magnaflow magnaflow magnaflow magnaflow magnaflow
Borla's sound amazing, but they're more expensive, the build quality sucks, they blow up from backfires, and they XRS are in fact crushbent. XR-1's might not be. borla FTL: https://www.rx7club.com/1st-gen-general-discussion-207/couple-pics-my-new-setup-807548/ https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...backfire+borla Racing beat makes mufflers strong as tanks and they sound great, but they don't make the most power if that's your goal. Flowmaster's rot out after 6 months to a year of rotary heat. Dynomax make amazing resonators, but their mufflers are glass packed and will get really loud with age. Magnaflows are built like tanks and can take some serious backfires, just ask anyone who's driven behind me. steel wool wrapped core with rock wool filler. FTMFW! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0vbPTuvCzs Magnaflow muffler, and 2 dynomax bullet presilencers + a small street port make this sound. Loud as hell but fun. http://furinox.com/jappweb/index.php...id=4&Itemid=28 |
If you want loud, why even bother with a header?
I don't. (ahem - I'm kidding...) |

I have a RB SP exhaust. Sounds great, does not drone at cruise, and it has already outlasted one FB. |
2nd Gen NA header, reduced to 2 1/2" pipe into new universal catalytic, downsized to 2 1/4 pipe leading to Magnaflow muffler.
Nice mellow tone, still gives off that rotary tone, that's well behaved, nothing raspy or tinny. Really waiting for the day I have the money to afford a full Racing Beat system, tho. |
I blew out 4 magnaflows in about a year, running them as presilencers. Bunch of crap if you ask me. I'll stick to RB, Rotaflo, and Borla
|
The more I drive my car, the more I'm loving the sound of the dynatech. I just hope it lasts a good while, I can't imagine why it wouldn't.

I love the sound difference from when i changed from the RB header the manifold and downpipe but i'm still looking for somthing a little different. I'm thinking about running a 2.5' inch pipe after my downpipe to a 2.5' inch dynatech and then dump it before the rear axle, should be semi-loud and have a sweet tone. Which exact dynatech do you have starfox? round or oval? and, have you noticed it getting louder since you've added the dynatech, in other words can you tell if the packings starting to deteriorate? i really want something that lasts. |

it was a tad quieter than the stock manifold into a glasspack and a turndown before the axle not sure what the next setup will be, it needs to be quieter though RB header into 2x2"x31" glass packs into the same 3" borla. the borla needs to go, its sounded great before, but is kinda tinny now. i need something more robust in the back. the good part is that its almost streetable! so exhaust 2.0 is ok. |
rb road race header, rb muffler. duel straight pipes between them.

I have a RB 2 into 1 Header, 2.5 inch straight pipe all the way to a vibrant flat black single outlet straight thru muffler.

ive thought of doing that. is it still quiet? ive been wanting to remove the presilencer. i have the universal RB muffler though

I’m running a s4 turbo 3” exhaust and two large Magna Flows, a nice low end rumble but your not going to want to run it on the freeway for a long time. its far from quiet but i love it and d i would not want it louder. If you go from a 2.5" piping to 3" you’re going to be noticeably louder and loose some tq.
