i know its not much info to go on, but tis what i have to base an offer on :)

interior looks clean as well.. at least no obvious tears in the seats

please post location and whether its in canadian or US dollars as both will affect price

jorx81@aol.com 01-23-04 06:07 PM

auto trans=worthless, unless the car is absolutely mint.
But if the car dosen't run as it sits, don't give more than you usally carry in your wallet

DONNA 01-23-04 06:11 PM

300-500 usd if in good shape but not running, 800-1000 if running and over 150,000 miles. my 2 cents

cdrad51 01-23-04 06:20 PM

sounds about right. I paid $1025 for mine when it was 120k miles (see sig)

85rotarypower 01-23-04 06:23 PM

As stated above, auto=worthless.

The automatic cars are known to feel VERY slow. Obviously the acceleration is better with a 5 speed compared to a 3 speed auto. The rear end is even geared higher I think.

Offer $700 canadian. That is all I would pay for an auto.

rhinor61 01-23-04 06:40 PM

I disagree with it being worthless. Honestly if the car is clean and runs, I would rather have one over a 5speed cars.
Automatic cars are not driven as hard, and to convert to a manual transmission is not that hard if you have the same year donor car.

Running clean $1000-$1750
Not running $250-600
Thrashed $0 to $150.

Good parts on automatic cars.

BIG J MIXALOT 01-23-04 06:43 PM

you've obviously never driven an auto, it's like taking off in 2nd gear LITERALLY, once you get to about 25-40 and the trans gears down right, they do ok, nothing like a 5speed.
The most I ever paid for a non-running 7 was more than i paid for a running one, 500,ironically enough, it was a big mistake.

jorx81@aol.com 01-23-04 07:46 PM

neutral dropping mustang=ok
neutral dropping rx-7=break shit fast
not so much the trans, but much more shock to the rear than a manual,
A freind of mine twisted a drive shaft on an auto 5.0 gt once, it looked like a twizzler.

bliffle 01-23-04 08:42 PM

18 months ago I paid 1700 for an almost cherry 85GSL in SF with only 49k on the meter.

jorx81, I driven plenty automatic Rx-7 and I have bought several. My point being that an automatic transmission car usually is not beat to death like a 5sp car. I usually part them out or convert them to 5speed cars. In California the cars don't rust out so you have more usefull part compare to the rest of the country. So paying $0-150 for a car with a glass roof and header is worth it. Engine fire cars are usually free though.

I drove a few miles to pick up a excellent condition running 1985 GSL-SE for $500 down in AZ (oh it has the glass roof and full RB exhuast system).

two questions

thanks for the input guys

ok so two questions

1. the gearing is different. OK, but there isnt anything hte the rear end that affects the gearing is there? (sorry im a total newbie)

therefore i should beable to put a 5speed in from an 82 GX and not have to transfer teh read diff over?

2.) i was thinking about the conversion, is there anythign complex about it? something to watch out for?

the plan would be to trade transmissions between my 82 and this one, the motor in my 82 is an 83/84 so it should just swap over right?

unless the auto is fuel injected, which would mean doing somehting to the carb?

i really want to do this if i can :)

RRTEC 01-24-04 03:51 AM

82gs you mean?

Captain Lou 01-24-04 03:59 AM

nope GX

i meant GX.

teh GX was sold in canada in 1981 and 82

it was badged teh GSL in the USA

so its got the discs all round and the limited slip.

its got these nifty gx badges on the side of the car.

i might ave to see if i can take them with me :)

RRTEC 01-24-04 04:07 AM

Damn i have been away from canada too long (lived in the usa for 11 years now...slipping i guess..

Captain Lou 01-24-04 04:08 AM

wow

must have been a womanthat got you down there :)

canadato tennesee is as big a jump as i can envision :)

85rotarypower 01-24-04 09:06 AM

I guess an auto trans wouldn't be too bad if you don't want good accelleration. I remember reading somewhere that the rear end gears are a little different. The auto had a 3.91 rear compared to a 4.11 in the 5 speed. Can't remember where I read this though.

I myself almost bought an auto. A 1982 GS I think. Anything that could leak was leaking though. The engine was leaking oil and probably coolant, the trans was leaking, and the rear was leaking. Looked under the car and 3 nice pools of oil in their respective spots. It also needed a lot of work. The guy wanted $1000. Probably only worth $300.

I've now got a 1982 GX. I thought they were GSL in canada too. I know I have one though. Rear disks, LSD, rear wiper. The usual. Got it for $500. Interior isn't as bad, but engine and underbody needed work. Paint is pretty good too. Just a few stone chips. I found out that the car was originally white, but was repainted black.

SevenHeaven 01-24-04 01:37 PM

Its hard to judge the value. I would say that mine is worth more then $1500. :p:

Rotofire 01-24-04 01:58 PM

I paid 3K for mine :( Probably worth 2K at the most. Http://members.cardomain.com/rotofire Oh, and how do you put pics in your sig?

Captain Lou 01-24-04 02:09 PM

so liek 85 rotary power says, is the rear end geard differently?

KehoeAutomotive 01-24-04 07:28 PM

Hey, I've sold a lot of cars for various people. My experience is that ANY car that runs can bag around $1000 US or so.
