weber coolant leak

hey guys. i just intalled the weber 48 ida on my 85 and tried starting it then went and checked if anything was leaking. it seemed to be leaking coolant in between the oil pan and the engine..what do i do? i wanna try getting it started up but this scared me!

Oil pan and engine?

Did you wipe the coolant off when you installed the IDA? When you take the stock Nikki off (or any carb from an unmodified engine) it will pour coolant out of the coolant ports on the housings. Wipe that stuff off!

Did you replace the O-rings? If you wanted to keep the O-Rings then you would be better off replacing them with new rings. Most people just stick 20mm Freeze plugs in the coolant ports.

Double check that stuff and get back to us. Also clean up a lot around the suspected area, and start the car. Make sure it is not seeping out between the housings and irons.

well i did freeze plug the holes but when i took the manafold back off the freeze plugs obviously werent in great because there was a decent amount of leakage. so i guess i need to get more freeze plugs but is there a better way to put those in, i used a big bolt to the back of them with a hammer...

Use wood and a hammer. You probably dented it. Are they the right size?

get the right size freeze plugs and a new gasket you should be alright.

When installing freeze plugs you need to hammer them in on the flange with the correct size socket not by the middle. You can tweak it otherwise.

I did a quick pic:
Red = socket this size hammer by this flange
Blue = do hammer on this surface.
