Wankel?
 

i was just wondering how it is pronounced....is it Wankel with the "a" like in wand, or is it like the "a" in wanker? this has no purpose, but i was curious.

Originally it's German... so to them (and supposedly to us) it *should* be

Vahn-kel .. or something similar.

But we North Americans have bastardized it and ya, the common pronunciation is Wank-el :p:

Well, I wouldn't say it's "bastardized"...the pronunciation is just localized. Volkswagen, for example, does not encourage people here to call them "folks-vaggen", as it would over there. "What do you drive, sir?" "I have a Fau-Vay Gay-Tay-E!" (VW GTI). Personal names, I agree, should be pronounced as the "owner" of the name wishes, but many German...er, Deutshe...people don't seem to mind an innocent butchering of their name in the local tradition of the pronouncer, in my experience. I butchered *many* names in my 2 years stationed in Germany. :)
