turbo manifold

Hey I was just curious on what kind turbo manifold I would need to get to fullfil my turbo dream. tried searhing but couldn't find anything.

Rusty Shackleford 01-17-05 10:19 PM

im pretty sure those that have done it use a 3rd gen turbo manifold cut the flange off and weld a RB flange for the 12a

I have a 13B 4 port

then i eat my words

S5 (89-91) TII has a nice, simple cast manifold that will fit all 13Bs.It may require some grinding if the 13B center plate has a boss on it like the FC non-turbo 13Bs do.No big deal. Its also a good flowing little manifold that doesnt suffer the cracking issues like the S4 manifolds do.Ive run 14psi through mine for years with no ill effects.
Youd probably be limited to a S5 turbo instead of a fancy aftermarket turbo, but thats still good for more boost than you should run through a 70s 13B anyways.About 10-11psi is the limit for the stock T18,but you could also go hybrid with the S5 turbo and convert it to a TO4 compressor. You be good for 14psi then but your N/A engine would likely scatter quickly from that much boost.

you want a turbo? i have a j-spec S5 turbo and mani i can sell you. pm me if your interested.

YapaKanichi 01-18-05 05:50 PM

would an aftermarket turbo manifold for a 2nd gen work?

Gregs 01-18-05 06:03 PM

yes as long as you can clear your intake manifolds

I woulden't put a FC manifold in a FB. FC manifolds place the turbo too far forward and damn near stuff the compressor housing into the radiator. FB's can have the turbo placed more rearward.

here is a quick pic of mine.

Keep in mind that pic was taken after 5500 miles of use.

dude wouldn't that manifold been all up in your strut towers?

CarlRx7 01-19-05 05:32 PM

i have a s5 manifold and s5 turbo on my 12a and the compressor is no where near my radiator.

carl.

yapa- No problems with strut tower, plenty of room. :)

Carl- Greg is right, I was talking about real turbos/manifolds ;)
