turbo?
i have a garrett turbo and turbo mani for a 86 ford turbo coupe. do you think the turbo could be used on a streetport gsl-se engine
|
Yes...............and by yes I mean no......................very no
|
I have the same turbo. The hotside is about half the size of a s4 turbo hot side. It would spool quick but choke things off. It would be okay on a stockport 12a and that's about it.
|
Not even on a stockport 12A. You guys fail to realise how much volume these rotaries push. A stock turbocharger from a Turbo II RX-7 is the bare minimum you want to start with. Just plain forget about piston turbochargers all together

And that's all fine and dandy but it was also fuel injected, not carbureted. I honestly wouldn't use a 12A Turbo turbocharger. Oh and it was built by Hitachi, same guys that build the HT-18 and HT-12's for the FC and FD respectively

On a 12A blowthrough, the S-4 turbo works very damn well. It will also be a good start for future upgrades, both with the engine and turbo.
|
Echoing what the other guys have said........yea,pretty much forget any piston engine's factory turbo, except maybe from a Grand National or a MkIII Supra.
The TII turbo is BY FAR the easiest unit to bolt up to any rotary. Its the right size and the manifold is way,way easier to adapt to your engine than anything else you might find in a wrecking yard. |
hehehe Holset70 :) DO IT!!!!

:sniker:
Yea,200lb ft of torque at 1500rpms.......and 30HP at 7000rpms! Go pull some stumps! |

Bolting on a turbo is the simple part.........getting it to run.........that's where most guys give up and sell there parts before they even get it finished. I need to start looking a little closer at user profiles before I assume they know what all this involves.

"exactly"

Yes, with only the slightest of modifications to the hood

Sure, while we're at it... lets add some 2000mm rotors and a nice 200B Rotary engine.
