The Transformation has begun!! Bwa ha ha!
The Transformation: Friday & Saturday
I'm trying to get all this done before Deal's Gap. Wish me luck! For those of you that don't know what my plans are - My Goals before Deal's Gap
Friday: That evening, my buddy Minda (rotarycrazy on this site) went with me to my house to pick up the RX-7 and the wide-body-kit and suspension. I had to drive my Dad's F150 pickup to take the parts to his place. We live about 60 miles apart. His place is more suitable for us to do this work at since he has a "car-port" and I don't. He drove the RX-7 down. When we got to my place, the RX-7 would not start. The battery was dead. So we jumped it and went on our way. We stopped to get gas, and well, the battery was still dead. So we had to jump it again in the crowded gas station. http://img453.imageshack.us/img453/9...n0088fe.th.jpg Saturday: We ran errands, and got the rest of the various parts we needed. Got the car up on jackstands and started to work. First we evaluated exactly how bad the rust is. As you can see in the pics, it is quite extensive. Yeah, this is gonna be fun. Then we started pulling the rear suspension out and dropped the axle. That's about as far as we got. Will continue this week and update as available. Now for some pics. Just so you get a good idea of what I'm about to jump headfirst into, here are pics of the rust that has to be fixed on BOTH the rear fenders/fender-wells. http://img453.imageshack.us/img453/9...n0144bo.th.jpg http://img47.imageshack.us/img47/478...n0124ib.th.jpg A pic of Minda. No, he didn't "have a little Captain in him". lol http://img47.imageshack.us/img47/908...n0170dc.th.jpg My old, ratty, nast, yucky, sucky, dirty, tasteless wheels. http://img47.imageshack.us/img47/152...n0188qq.th.jpg Minda's cat is inspecting, ummm, the cat ;) http://img47.imageshack.us/img47/217...n0190fs.th.jpg We couldn't push or pry the old rubber bushings out, so we decided to burn them out. Yeah, that was fun, and it smelled great too! http://img387.imageshack.us/img387/6...n0213ic.th.jpg That's all for now folks! |
Much thanks to Minda for all the help so far and in the future! kudos!
|
i always like to see progress bein made, almost motivates me to fix my leakin OMP.. Keep us posted and don't forget the many pics! :D
|
great stuff keep it up what kinda widebody you got?
|
well so far the progress today is slow but I did find more of that rust thing we all love. We will have to buy quite a bit of sheat metal to cover all that up. Hope fully thats all for the rusted part in the back becouse if there is more I will shoot the damn thing and just make him get a decent shell.

That is some more bad rust. good Luck
|
Man. I applaud your efforts. I guess I was lucky when I got my 7. I have been all over the car, and have only found a few places in the paint. It truely shows me how much these cars mean to people. I have always loved my 7, but I would really have to think hard and long about taking on a major task like that. Hope to see that 7 at Deal's Gap. Good luck with resto, and definantly keep us posted on the progress.

you have no idea about rust...
|
Ok, time for an update.
The Transformation:
Minda here. updating for Adam. Monday: Basically just did more rust analysis. Discovered more rust and started removing the affected areas. http://img309.imageshack.us/img309/1...n0019jd.th.jpg http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/8...n0021di.th.jpg http://img309.imageshack.us/img309/2...n0039sx.th.jpg Tuesday: Turbo kit came in!!!! WOOOOO HOOOO!! YEEE haw!!! ahem. anyway. this was Zac's (fb II on this site) turbo kit. Here are some pics of Adam with turbo and intercooler. http://img309.imageshack.us/img309/5...n0047tp.th.jpg http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/1...n0075lv.th.jpg Wednesday: Great weather and some tunes from Rammstein make me work work work. Took apart the front end and as you can see in the pics, there is almost no rust up front! The rust that was on the old fenders was apparently just surface rust. But it doesn't matter since the widebody fenders will replace them. http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/8...n0057mo.th.jpg http://img309.imageshack.us/img309/9...n0065yd.th.jpg Well that's all for now. We'll keep you updated as often as possible! |
Amazing!

|
Yeah it sucks, but fortunately, it is mostly confined to the rear. As you can see in the pics, there is NONE upfront. weird.
|
The Transformation:
Ok time for another update. Not much happening today, just finished up cutting the rust off the body. While I was cutting rust away in the rear fender well, I found a mouse nest! lol. Those little buggers crawled up inside there and built a nest! ha ha. http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/7...n0029ym.th.jpg http://img224.imageshack.us/img224/6...n0033jo.th.jpg Good picture of where the mouse nest was. http://img418.imageshack.us/img418/4...n0058lk.th.jpg Now for just some various pics of the rust that has been cut away. http://img354.imageshack.us/img354/5...n0018ms.th.jpg http://img418.imageshack.us/img418/8...n0061qi.th.jpg Thats it for now. We'll be going out to the RX-7 meet in columbia SC here a couple of hours. |
looks good :t_up:
|
The Transformation: Monday
Just removed everything possible on the driver's side of the Engine bay, cleaned it, and prepped engine bay for paint. We started painting, but it was apparently too cold, so it kept "running". http://img45.imageshack.us/img45/771...n0177js.th.jpg http://img45.imageshack.us/img45/705...n0183vv.th.jpg http://img45.imageshack.us/img45/825...n0197oo.th.jpg http://img45.imageshack.us/img45/885...n0209ju.th.jpg See my for sale thread, and see if I have anything you need! Thanks, we'll update as soon as we can! |
Again, I apologize about the lack of updatedness this thread has been suffering from. We have been working on the car, but mostly on some of the small stuff and the rust. Obviously, I didn't meet my goal of making Deal's Gap, but cest la vie. Oh well, maybe next year.
Well, the rust is rapidly disappearing! No more holes in the car! woot! http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/204...ildpix4.th.jpg http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/604...ldpix03.th.jpg Burning out more bushings! FUN! http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/631...ldpix02.th.jpg Take it easy, everybody! Until next time, - Adam "Skylance" |
put pics on when your wideboadys on it looks mint:)
|
Okay, time for another update!
The engine bay has been completely repainted! Lookin' gorgeous! http://img305.imageshack.us/img305/2...x0011em.th.jpg http://img305.imageshack.us/img305/8...x0041xw.th.jpg Painted some of the brackets. http://img501.imageshack.us/img501/6...x0057fc.th.jpg Went shopping today, picked up some of the stuff I need . . . Boost guage. http://img501.imageshack.us/img501/7...x0082gj.th.jpg Blow off valve. http://img501.imageshack.us/img501/2...x0099ja.th.jpg Big fricken' muffler! lol http://img501.imageshack.us/img501/8...x0074ua.th.jpg http://img501.imageshack.us/img501/7...x0068em.th.jpg Later dayz, y'all! |

|
Well, today we finally made some SUBSTANTIAL progress! I'll be the first to tell you that it sure feels good for a change.
The first thing we did this morning was make the lousiest attempt ever at trying to get a tow dolly. I should have called to reserve one earlier this week, but it completely skipped my mind. Anyway, we finally found one and picked up the GSL-SE parts car that I need for the LSD, disc brakes, correct bolt pattern for my wheels, and hopefully some headlight motors that ACTUALLY work! As you can see in the pix, it was in really bad shape, hence it's "parts car" status. lol It felt kinda weird to get parts and actually use them the SAME DAY - not store them for months on end. lol :) http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/311...p0035la.th.jpg http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/7...p0059qy.th.jpg Here we are putting in some of the polyurethane suspension bushings. Minda (rotarycrazy) and Masin (dregg100) decided that the grease we smeered on the bushings prior to installation was consistent in look, color, texture, and feel to that of "whale sperm". I'm still trying to figure out exactly how they became experts in whale sperm, but it sounds like an interesting story that we didn't exactly have time for . . . Thats me (Adam aka. "Skylance") on the left , Masin (dregg100) in the middle, and Minda (rotarycrazy) on the right. http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/5...p0086sq.th.jpg http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/797...p0093ps.th.jpg We got the new rear end ready to go!!!! Cleaned, painted and beautiful! http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/447...p0118rw.th.jpg We had some trouble with the mosquitos trying to carry us away to their vampire lairs, so we got one of those repellent candles out. Unfortunately, for reasons unknown to us, the wicks would not stay lit. So, we ummmm, "fixed" it! woot!! Eh, whatever works, right? http://img108.imageshack.us/img108/4...p0259fy.th.jpg http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/7...p0262ak.th.jpg http://img108.imageshack.us/img108/2...p0233md.th.jpg Well, we got that problem taken care of and finished putting in the rear axle. http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/5...p0140pd.th.jpg http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/6...p0163ss.th.jpg Here's a sneek peek at what the car will look like once I get the wide body and wheels on it! I can't wait! http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/7...p0183jx.th.jpg http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/3...p0197rq.th.jpg http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/8...p0212tl.th.jpg http://img240.imageshack.us/img240/3...p0225ik.th.jpg Well, everybody, take it easy. Hopefully, we'll get a lot more done over the next few days! Until next time, - Adam |

- Adam Whale sperm is sold at GM...it is used in there LSD's as a lube :D |
Well, I guess you you learn something new everyday! ;) lol

Got a lot accomplished over the long weekend!!!
Sunday: Got the turbo, intake manifold and carb put on! http://img119.imageshack.us/img119/1...k0013as.th.jpg http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/7...k0026xg.th.jpg http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/3...k0033ah.th.jpg http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/6...k0046qp.th.jpg Monday: Made like 150,000 trips to Lowe's and Home Depot. But we still managed to mount the intercooler. http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/8...k0051fl.th.jpg http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/1...k0063hy.th.jpg http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/3...k0076dn.th.jpg http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/5...k0085tk.th.jpg http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/7...k0095by.th.jpg We also mounted one of the rear fenders! That yellow stuff you see is "Great Stuff" expanding foam insulation. It is going between the stock fender and the wide body fender. It should help give some support to the fiberglass. http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/2...k0102bh.th.jpg http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/5...k0116dd.th.jpg http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/5...k0123zi.th.jpg http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/8...k0135ex.th.jpg Much thanks again to my "big brothers" for all the help! :) |
Another weekend with a substantial amount of progress!! woot! We were aiming to have it started by now, but unfortunately, that was just not possible :( The good news is, we got the stainless steel oil cooler lines installed, mounted the oil cooler, mounted the radiator, finished the intercooler piping, and the BOV is mounted and installed!! Thanks to Masin's buddy for the weld! Sorry I never met him, and I don't know his name, but I like to give credit where credit is due . . .

Woot! http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/7...40125sc.th.jpg http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/4...40140xw.th.jpg http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/8...40176bb.th.jpg http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/1...40197we.th.jpg http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/7...40189vm.th.jpg http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/7...40214ys.th.jpg I also have some parts for sale that I scalped off of the Parts car I bought a couple of weeks ago. Go here to see if there is anything you need! Thanks again to everyone for coming over and helping! |
Is that kink in the one oil cooler line bad?
|
No, We are gonna try to un-kink it, but fortunately it is not completely closing off the line. So even if we can't un-kink it, once we get the car started and get some pressure in the oil system it "should" expand what's left of the kink in the hose.
|
You have to much fun with that smoke wrench.

more pics!!

Wow! We had a crazy rainstorm this weekend, but it didn't keep us from getting stuff done!
Got the wing mounted and started bondo work on the back! http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/3...g0010jg.th.jpg http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/3...g0023hb.th.jpg http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/1...g0038ma.th.jpg http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/6954/wing0061zt.th.jpg Minda got happy with a sharpie. Here is his self-portrait. http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/5...g0077jl.th.jpg Got the Fuel Pressure Regulator installed and all the different vacuum hoses done. http://img119.imageshack.us/img119/3...g0119ec.th.jpg Got the E-fan installed! http://img119.imageshack.us/img119/3...g0122gw.th.jpg How do you like my boost guage placement? :) http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/4354/wing0086dr.th.jpg |
Sorry I haven't been updating this thread, but there just hasn't been much to take pictures of . . . until today.
http://img469.imageshack.us/img469/4...d001zv0.th.jpg he he he he. not that, this --> http://media.putfile.com/Its-Alive-10 |
nice! another wide body taking shape
boost guage placement is awesome!! How easily does it fit in there? Looks like you didn't have to modify the hole much. |
It actually was really easy I just tokk the went out and cut the inside of the went so you are just left with the round ball of the went and it fits right in you need a dremel or some sorth of cutting utencil to do it thou.

What he said :) We just took out the vent, it will pull out easily. Cut out the middle. Slid the guage in. Almost like it was made to fit! |
yup i did the same as well for my oil pressure gauge ^^
i hvnt read the hole thred can i have a breif of the fb11 turbo setup? any details of parts used to get it going ps. sounds pretty awsome have u got any porting there? |
nope stick mazda rebuild ir uses S4 turbo SSautochrome intercooler boost preped carb and some other nicks and naks plus MSD with direct fire for the leading.

I think that covers everything |
how much did u spend on this fb2 turbo?
|
the header was built by RX3mist.com
|
sounds pretty simple
whats the exhaust manifold? u running premix? for some reason ur nikki looks tinyer than my stripped one must be the carb hat what psi u gonna run max? |
yes there will premix and the carb has bin striped of everything but the bare esentials.
|
ops i typed real slow lol
|
i see the rubber reducing couplings on the intercooler piping being rubber, but are the elbow ABS? I see no way plastic to metal sealing under pressure.
