Toyo Proxes RA-1
just slapped these on my 1st gen. mine dont have the treads.. anyone know if these are gonna be a hassle to drive in wet conditions?
|
NO tread at all? Yeah, those won't be great in rain.
|
without tread it is no joke when I say the car will be worse then driving on ice. I bet you could hydroplane with those going 15mph if they honestly dont have tread
|
Full tread RA-1's are basically a rain tire. Once the tread is gone, they are dry weather only. Now, if they are not too old, the chemical grip will still be great in the rain provided you don't go fast enough to hydroplain. I drove on Hoosiers for several weeks and was fine as long as I kept it under 60. Just be carful.
|
the tires are old and have 10% left.. dry pavement they will be fine... wet = death to your seven!!!!
welcome to the rx7 club!!! |
Let's put it this way, it would be like waxing your snow skis.
Welcome to the forum and the Darkside. |

and you stated that yours does have the treads, and will it work on wet conditions. . . . . will a regular street tire with no tread, that ops at low temperature work well in the rain where the rain water coolrs the rubber? Think of the RA-1, that needs to be heat cycled for its optimum performance traction. Seriously. |
wow, trochoid tells it like it is and redr1 makes a post in here... and surprisingly it dosnt involves teh buttseks.
but yeah, get some falken ziex or something, dont wreck your 7 |
Yo Thats very dangerous when on wet if there's no tread. But on dry you should be o-kay. Just drive slow and no quick accelleration. You should be cool but know this, you will have to drive it, so pay a lot of attention on what she's telling you.
|
By the way hello Y'all Im new to this forum too.
Name's mike and I have an fc. '86 her name is Ashlee. I dont leave home without her. |
for lack of examples, NASCAR cars have no tread. they dont dare race if water even touches the track.
|
As far as tires in racing venues go, you will notice that they have both wet and dry tires on hand. Each of which have different compunds ranging from hard to soft, depending on temps, both ambient and track surface. They usually have 3 compunds of the drys and 2 of the wets, depending on what the sactioning body allows.

So yeah, when it comes to the newbs, I care more about saving a 7 than them. If they want to be stupid, they deserve the consequences, the 7 does not.

And Cbz, those tires would probably be amazing in the dry if you get a chance to put them back on. Just don't run them when cords are showing. |

Just don't run them when cords are showing. yea definately, most of the reviews i've read about the tires say that they run great on the tracks and especially in the dry. so i'd love to put them on in the summer. "great performance isn't much without great tires" right? |
Trust me, I speak my mind, lol. I have a set of Hoosier autocross tires that are pretty much slicks, one even has cord showing on an edge. I went to the 1/8 mile track a few years ago to test them against stock tires and wheels. Even with the Hoosier's being 225/45/13, the ets were slower with them. Corners were fun though.

IMO mine just looks a little weird with that gap, but it will be looking great just like yours. congrats on winning that trophey too, must have been an honor. |
I was surprised when they called my name. It made the 700+ mile, one day round trip, to Arlington Tx even more enjoyable.
Thanks for the compliment. |
wow nice.. that must have been so amazing. i haven't taken a long drive in my 7 yet. i'm planning to go up to visit someone at their college which is about a 4 hour drive so i'm looking forward to that. and yea no problem, something like your car deserves the compliments :D.

That was actually the 3rd or 4th time I have taken a road trip to the DFW area in the FB. I took it down last May, for a day on the track at MotorSport Ranch. I AutoX it as well. Within 3 weeks I won not only the show trophy, but also 2 1st place CSP AutoX trophies. All are proudly displayed in my living room.
The former owner took it on a trip from north Texas to this area, but failed to have current registration, insurance, or drivers license. Police had it impounded, and they never came back to bail it out. I bought it from the impound lot a year later, for a song. ($500) That was ~20K miles ago (2 years) and I have been lovin it ever since. |
