tinted tail-lights anyone?

Anyone want a different look to their tail-lights but think clear ones look gay? Here's what tinted ones look like. And please, no flames about my massive "wing". :D

Nice

Nice car but your steering wheel is on the wrong side.
I can't really see but what colour did you tint the lights?
How is the brightness affected.
Nice to see a car that has the original lines intact.

It's a black tint and the brightness is still more than acceptable.

Pele 12-01-01 12:06 AM

Oh yeah. I'm diggin the blackouts. Very slick. How'd you tint em?

gamble302 12-01-01 12:33 AM

reminds me of how the new mustang gt headlights are smoked a little. not bad at all if the tint looks bad i would do that rather than takin it out.

I've got mine tinted. I used some stuff called Nite Shades. It's a spray on tint. I used to see it in parts stores, but I think I got it from Summit.

Does that work on windows? *dumb question, but it's worth a try*....

SilverRocket 12-01-01 01:52 AM

Those actually look pretty nice! Definitely a lot nicer than the clear ones, which I personally hate. I think it would depend on the color of your car, on white it certainly looks good.

I think you should tint your back hatch for the finishing touch.

You don't want to fuck around with do-it-yourself window tints. In the rare case they might look good at first (if you somehow manage to do it well), but in the long run that stuff is crap.

Seriously, get your car tinted by a professional, and get it done right. It's worth it if you want your car to look nice for a long time.

Viperx7 12-01-01 03:15 AM

If I remember right, it was only for plastic lens. As was stated before, if you want to do your windows and you don't know how to do it, take it to a tint shop. I have tinted many windows and it is a royal pain on some vehicles. My last car, I took to a shop and didn't worry about the hassle.

i did mine as well. it appears mine aren't as dark. the little reflectors show well through the tint and the brightness is quite adequate.

i used nite shades. got it at the local rice shop. it was on special, apparently smoking the tails isn't trendy anymore; the altezzas are >:(

SIX TWO SLEEPER 12-01-01 08:28 AM

Mine already are like that. But I have the wall-to-wall US style lights instead of the euro-style licence plate and bumper. It's not really a light, just a glued-on plastic thing.

Keaponlaffen 12-01-01 12:51 PM

Actually, does anyone know a good solvent to use to remove the sticky mess that's left over after old tinit is removed? That glue has to be the most annoying crap to get off....

cpt_gloval 12-01-01 02:06 PM

i tried acetone, but it left an even stickier mess, so i went at it with a razor blade. That worked well.

I think my hatch has been tinted because when you look at it at a certain angle you see kind of a "checker board" pattern.

Kerry 12-01-01 08:44 PM

Winnepeg, I bet you're seeing the internal stresses in the glass. If it's more noticeable with polarized sunglasses, then that's it.

Nah, Kerry's right - not tinted, mine looked like that too before it was ever tinted.

RXcetera 12-02-01 10:20 AM

That's because it's "factory tinting". Pretty shitty job eh?

So that's what that shit is... :) Wait.. which is it? Stresses, polarization, or shitty factory tinting?

RyanREX 12-02-01 07:27 PM

Cool. Ever seen a 1st gen with 3rd gen lights? I saw one yesterday. Really nice but the expense was alot.

RXcetera 12-02-01 07:42 PM

Lol, it's factory tinting. It was standard on all 1st gens I beleive. It's not the usual "stick-on" type tinting though... the glass itself has actualy been treated with somekind of crap.

cpt_gloval 12-03-01 03:17 AM

it's polarization.

Bern 12-03-01 04:15 AM

Reassembly??

Hey, what kind of adhesive/hot glue do you guys use to put the lenses back on? I bought brand new lenses but, I'm getting moisture into the lenses when I wash the car.

Thanks,
Bern

Pele 12-03-01 08:40 AM

Pick one.

Both, tint is actually a polarization filter, either sprayed on, or stuck on. Same consept as sunglasses.
