timing problem

I am tring to get this thing running and now I am real stummped been messing with the timing and when I set leading yellow to pin and try trail it reads same as lead no matter what I do whats up with that if I move trailing it moves leading and it runs but breaks up around 5000 rpm

What kind of timing light is it? Sometimes the inductive style will pick up the leading ignition even when it is clamped onto the trailing lead. If it is an inductive light, try connecting it as close to the distributor cap as possible on the T1 lead.

rotorysuzuki 04-28-04 02:37 PM

yeah it is the one that goes around the wire I will try that right now

rotorysuzuki 04-28-04 02:47 PM

that didnt help anything what else could it be

Is your vac advance disconnected?

If so, try setting your timing while idle is a 4,000 rpms, then check?

rotorysuzuki 04-28-04 03:19 PM

no do i have to disconnect the vac

rotorysuzuki 04-28-04 04:34 PM

tried it that way and it didnt help still messed up

the ignitors use a single wire for the ground, check the wiring diagram, I had the same thing happening so I changed this so each ignitor was completely wired separately

You must have read the diagram wrong because the ignitors do not use the same ground wire. Each of the coils has a seperate wire running from the negative terminal to it's respective ignitor. The ignitor simply acts as a switch in the coils primary circuit by interrupting the current path to ground. The ignitor itself is grounded through the body of the distributor.

What ever! I can see a common wire between the ignitors,

:D That's because the circuit is completed through the back of the ignitors to the distributor/engine block which is obviously common. The actual WIRES already run seperately from each of the coils to it's respective ignitor.

then I had a bad ignitor, but wiring them completely seporate, fixed my problem, the same problem rotarysuzuki is having, I have since went direct fire

Get a new light. Some lights just arent compatible. My cheapie walmart special works great. My $$ sun light does what yours does. Go figure.

I had them grounded together and had a bad igniter fixed all that but still breaks up when I shift hard to 2 gear
