tII trans shifter mod

I HAVE searched this and have found needed info but none of the posts have the greatest pictures or details of the swap,I need to know if the trans has to be fully disassembled to remove the shifter rod or if you can only take off the rear "tail section" to remove it,I have the transmission and the car and the engine to do this swap but THIS is a problem for me, I have never taken a transmission apart, any help?

Tail housing needs to come off to remove the shifter rod. Follow the disassembly proccedures in the FSM. Good thing is the gears assembly comes out as a unit. lol.

thanks cuzz. I will make sure to drop off my TII tranny for mods this weekend. thats in exchange for the parts you're holding for me. thanks again mang!!

what is the mod?

Siraniko 04-11-07 06:08 PM

Shorten the TII's remote shifter rod in order for the shifter to stay in stock FB shifter tunnel (without cutting)

Remove shifter and that section where it mounts to. Depending on the year but the S5 has a roll pin instead of a 10mm bolt.

Unbolt tailshaft from the tranny body.

Shorten the shifter rod/re-tap, and at the same time, shorten the shifter rod's housing.

FWIW I was able to mod the shifter on my T2 trans without removing the shifter rod from the trans at all. I turned it so the hold was perfectly up and down, and held it in a vice (my vice happens to be the right height) and drilled it with a hand drill (slowly and carefully) Came out quite nice, and didn't require taking much apart.

That's true. I felt better drilling that hole in the drill press to ensure proper alignment. I'd heard of others that drilled it slightly off and were left with a 4-speed with no reverse!
