things you would like to see made for 1st gens
Heres my list
1. s4 TII tranny conversion kit. would inluce a modified FB shifter assembly and a new rear tranny mount. and maybe even a driveshaft (s5 trannys have a rear mount that is more difficult to modify) this wouldn't be too hard to produce (in fact, i am thinking of producing them for sale - driveshaft) 2. catback exhaust 3in. due to different turbos and manifold a turbo back exhaust is not that reasonable. 3. a carbon fiber hood |
Functional cup holder
|
yessssss, forgot that one.
keep em coming |

mainly I just want a vented hood, but a carbon fiber one would look sweet also.
the stock hood is nowhere near as light as a carbon one. carbon ones weight like 8 lbs. the stock hoos is at least 20 something |
Concealed non pop up headlamps done right in a buy and install form. no mucking around. Oh ya they have to work well with lots of lamp power. The lexan lens MUST be an Xact replica of what it replaces meaning it will have to be a formed part that follows the hood and fender curve AS WELL AS the front valance panel curve.
Meaning a part that has compound curves and looks like it came from the factory. I know this is a tuff one but it needs to be under $500 incl. all lights( I need it to be a 4 round setup), wiring, and proper pods and such. |
cd deck that replaces the tape deck in the gsl-se's and still look stock
|
fun fact for SA's: the mk1 miata and SA ashtrays are the same. so you can use the miata replacement cup holder. It might work in S2 cars too, but ive never been in one, so i cant say for sure.

6th gear
|
my mom had a miata and I thought that it might work for my s2, ill have to look into that.
but it was in a bad spot in the early miatas, its not any better a spot in a 7, except that the shifter is higher. |

When i went to go pick up my sa im my dads miata i thought... "man, that looks exactly the same". so i switched them out real quick and it fit! It doesnt get in the way in the 7 because the shifter is futher forward, and like you said, way taller. so your hand doesnt hit the cup when you shift to second. speaking of that, i would like to see a short throw shifter made for SA's. not a chopped off shifter, just a shorter throw. |

When they were developing the 3rd Gen (current) Viper, they polled and surveyed Viper owners heavily. They correctly assumed that the number one market for new Vipers were the previous Viper owners.
The number 1 feature request was a dead pedal. Very high on the list (I forget exact number) to not have: - cruise control - beverage holder I guess they consider those to non-sports car comforts. What do I want? - better selection of body kits - polyurethane air dam/bumper replacement - metal hood scoops/vents that can be fit into the factory hood - aftermarket EFI (that is reasonably priced) - aftermarket GSL-SE suspension so people will quit destroying GSL-SEs to steal the suspension for their GSL, and GS models (some of that is tongue in cheek - BTW, for those interested in the GSL-SE suspension...look at the Miata, I was told you could take that suspension and it is newer.) --BTC |
There was someone on the forum producing CF and fiberglass hoods..... Everyone seemed to like the idea, but not many acutally bought one, if any.........
I've noticed, there really isn't a point to try to mass produce an item for a 1st gen. No matter how much intial interest the product seems to have here, no one acutally wants to spend the money unless its really cheap. |
I'm sure if you can market some of this stuff to japan there would be demand for it. They don't seem to mind spending on thier fb (sa).
|
Unless the parts you propose are either super cheap, or of substantial benifit to those that race SAs and FBs, it's not likely to ever be produced.
I hate to be a pessimist, but I doubt 99% of the things you mention will ever be done on more than a one-off-for-a-couple-friends fashion. This car is too old, and the owners too cheap for a new companies to spend the time and money making average-joe consumer products for. The light conversion for example. $500? I good set of DOT approved head light repacements alone would cost more than $500. That doesn't include the fixtures, the lexan, or the time and effort to put such a kit together. I'd expect a quality kit along the lines you stated JO to cost around $800-$1000. Thats more than half the car's worth in most cases. Most of us here are very inventive, and creative at finding ways to get performance using as little money as possible. Why? Because we either lack the money to do it "right", or just really like to excersize creativity. Certainly the breed of people that modify these cars beacuse they just truely love them, even though they have enough money to buy and modify newer nicer cars in a higher price ranges, are somewhat rare. I'd place most of those that race this car on a regular basis in an organized fashion are the few that likely fall into this catagory. |

You need to add the fifth rule...
|
do a search for brake kits there are a few 1 is a big brake kit ust have a min of 17" rims and 1400$ just for the front
|
The 13bT driveshaft would be nice..I'm going through a nightmare right now with the driveshaft shop that is doing mine, and as soon as I get it my swap is basicly done..

Theft-proof Door Handle Replacements/ doors. Or a Cheap kit to do that... I'm Sure Everyone who has had their car broken into or stolen would agree. (luckily when they broke in to mine, it had no engine in it... suckers!)
Oh. how about some decent black interrior pieces too? |
It would be super cool if Mazda would come up with a full bolt up RENESIS engine conversion kits for our old 1st gens..never gunna happen but hell I love dreaming big :D
|
I like to drink coffee while driving my sportscar, so a cupholder would be nice.
I also want a big, rear oil shooter kit for tailgaters. Or maybe a thing to drop little spikey balls on the road. |
|
hm... i would say
more 12a wheels a 12a and/or 13b 1st gen turbo kit some hoods a s5 looking taillight a 13b 2nd gen turbo kit a 3rd gen kit (lol ya big dreamin) decent tach (anyone with a dancing tach knows what im talking about) DECENT A/C DAMNIT! <l><l> |
For a cupholder for you and your passenger...
http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/stoneype...est&.view=t You have the rear water bag just fill it with whatever fluid and aim your rear squirter backwords...... |
|
Of course!! But that might only make them not see and pull over to clean thier windshield.
I was thinking more along the lines of a huge oil gun that shoots on the road and causes your enemy to slip and crash into something. |
A kit to lay the radiator forward.
A wide body kit just like the pacific's,, again . Some really cool taillights. Some headlights/projector beams. Of coarse a fucking REAL cup holder for 2 cups. A back seat, fold down. A targa top, option. Back in 84-85 along with the -SE's have a 'turbo I',,(13b) |
Fatboy is probably right, most of these are pipe dreams until the cars start to go back up in value (they are hitting the magic 20 year mark), or unless the parts can be made profitable in small quantities with little development costs, or they are just new conversions of existing products (e.g. the Miata rear-end in the FB).
Here are some things I want: - a four rotor monster engine (with Renesis housings and light rotors) to put in my Dodge Dakota 4x4 (one day I WILL do this) - a real aluminum trim kit for the center console in the GSL-SE (silver colored pastic is just pathetic looking) [very doable and low cost in small runs] - a real wood veneer trim kit for the center console - leather/suede center replacemten seat skins FWIW, one of my cars has the Fujita security locks on them...I know nothing about it, except that is works. |

looks like the headlights I made in photoshop to demo a 'headlight kit' concept were then pasted onto another car.
|
well... humm.... how about..... stronger lower control arms? Im kinda pissed they crumble so easy...
|
I don't know who knows or doesn't know, but as a thought they do make 7" round light that has a projector lens built into it.
Sealed Beam Projector 7"round |
An "Invisibility" button. (be cool to hit it, then watch the sucker you are racing wonder where the hell you went!).
An ejector seat (For annoying passengers). Machine Guns (mini Gun) mounted at back - to KILL tail gaters. |
Why does everyone hate the lights on the first gen. I know they aren't the brightest, but they spell old skool import style. I love em. I love the way all the lights look.
Anyway, I would suggest: -Cheaper widebody kits. -porting companies like racing beat that will port used housings. -Do it yourself instructions for converting a carb to work with a rotary. -Turbo kit for a carbed 12a or 13b. BTW, a catback exhaust is almost useless. It's cheaper to just get a higher flowing muffler. Those projector headlights are going on my christmas list. |
i just put diamond style replacements in there and some silverstar bulbs,
love the look, matches my 3.5 in Piaa fog lights perfectly |
OK,,, a tablet you drop in the gas tank for 300 instant horse power. thats 300 horse power a tablet.Lol

S5 look taillights that are rounded and fits directly into FB type tailights. (Basically I want 2 round red stops)
|
i saw a LED panel on the show "TRUCKS" on spickes that just fit behind this old chevys lights, looked supercleans,
I just want to tint my lights and put a LED panel behind them. that would be clean |
how about replacement bins with hinges for the lids that dont break.
Sport top conversion would be cool too |
thought of anouther thing.
I would like a set of lowering springs that bring the fender down to the tire. I have B&G and they have advertise the most drop of 1.6in. I still have about a inch of fender gap |
