Good looking site Chris. The prices are in US funds right? I seem to recall that they are, but didn't see it on the site. Urge to spend rising....rising...

Damn, that kit looks niiiiiiiiice. I was thinking though, isn't is a more fun when you don't know which way your car is going at 100mph J/K. Might have to get me one of those kits because my steering is getting pretty bad

Ok, I'm going to have to ask too.

Will it fit a RHD car ? ... looks like a nice kit

How about clearance with headers etc? Just want to be sure!

Vehicle exhaust system sits lower than steering rack and sub-frame, steering geometry is not negatively affected, uses all factory replacement parts.

Huh? Sorry the wording doesn't make sense to me.

So will my 12a RB header interfere?

EDIT - ah... perhaps they are trying to say that we should have no concerns about ground clearance because the exhaust would hit the pavement before the rack would.

It would be nice if the site specified which...at CDN$550 it's a steal, at US$550, you might as well buy a new stock set-up.

So how exactly does it conect to the steering shaft?

What is that supposed to mean? :(
All I need to know is if it'd work with both stock exhaust system (thermal reactor in Europe, on all first gens, we never got cats), and/or RB headers.
If the exhaust sits lower, it'd interfere...

J Oliver 09-23-03 05:20 PM

The price issues are being rectified on the website, sorry.
As for the steering shaft, the stock shaft that is a part of the stock box is removed and the kit supplies a new steering shaft that slides into the collapsable colum.
It is now back to a stock collapsable system and the VW u-joint attatches to that as per factory.
As for the "Exhaust sits lower phrase" OMIT that. The system will not interfere with any stock exhaust configuration.

As for "Might as well buy a new stock set up"... There is absolutely NO comparison to the recirculating ball system, it can not hold a candle to a rack and pinion system. I have driven both, including a brand new steer box from Mazda. The box still has the SLOW steering ratio (rack and pinion much quicker) and it will always have that VERY vauge feeling from off center. It also does not give any feedback to the driver as to what the road and car are doing where as with the rack system you will feel only all positive feedback which makes the car much more enjoyable to drive.

Hope that helps guys
Thanx
J.Oliver

Damn... $350... That's almost twice what it was supposed to be...

Say it aint so... Looks like it'll wait till next paycheck.

Didn't someone have a link to get VW steering racks for $64 in one of the other threads?

brownmound 09-23-03 11:33 PM

Does it work with power steering? Or would we need to convert with a manual box?

Right on.

Cloud 09-24-03 12:07 AM

Questions you may want to answer on the site:

1. Apparently the kit will ONLY work on cars originally equipped with manual steering. Is this correct?

2. What is the ratio of the VW rack?? I personally really want to know the answer to this one...

If it says 550 canadian on your website. The law states that you must sell it at that price.
