Cool Slaying the Dragon...

No joke. This is what people call driving this insane road in my home state on Tennessee. Had to share this website with you guys in case you haven't heard of it. In east Tennessee, best time I suggest for people in other states is to drive here in the fall. The weather is perfect for windows down, sunroofs out, and driving through the mountains with all the cool colors of orange, red, yellow on the trees. Anyways, this is a SERIOUS road. Would love to get a crowd of 1st gens together maybe this fall for a ride...

yeah, deals gap is a cool ride I've heard. A lot of the folks I know ride out there for a day on the bikes. You ever seen the guy with one arm out there? Has a sweet setup on his motorcycle. I'm heading out there around october with a buddy from south carloina on the bikes.

I wouldn't mind taking a trip up there to have a little fun... From one of those maps, it seems a good radar detector is a must if you are going to really "tackle the dragon" Heh.

"Watch for the sharp turns
BIKER IN THE BANK
(gone since 2001)
Here he lies with pistons
and crank
Burried up to his ***
In the face of this bank
He challenged the Dragon
to have some fun
As you can see, the Dragon won!!

Photo & Poem by Carl Cooper"

Hahaha.

Well, I still hear of alot of guys on bikes who take it pretty fast despite rumors of the hwy patrol cracking down on speeders. This road has been around longer than probably anyone on this club and folks have gone against the odds for a long time now.

Any road around here I've been on in the mountains, I haven't seen many cops. But that isn't to say you won't get caught.....anything can happen I guess. Speed limit is suppsed to be like 45mph most of the way. I doubt many croch-rocket folks obey it though.

However, even though 45 doesn't sound fast, in a car, it is around a hairpin or switchback curve. I would say with tires crying and all, that will be the best you can do around some of the curves. The way it sounds, you won't even look down to see your speed. The road changes every second...

Actually on the TN side "the Gap" is 30 MPH speed limit on the carolina side it is faster than you can go in a car at least until you get past the gas station. I went last weekend didn't see a single officer at the gap despite a fairly large crowd. Including some flying bikes. It is a wild road no doubt, I was impressed.

What I would worry about is the roads leading too and from the most.

Alright, here's an idea.......

There is always a car show in the fall in Pigeon Forge, TN called the "Grande" There must be over 1,000 cars there showing off what they've got. The show is at the Grande Hotel but, every hotel on the Pigeon Forge strip has their parking lot full of hot rods, muscle cars, etc. At night time, hot rodders cruise the strip and 1,000s of people stand/sit on the sidewalks to see all the cars.

This would be a perfect time for us Rx-7 guys to make a statement there. We could all have our sevens parked together, sit in a lawn chair and enjoy the action. Trust me, it's a fun event. Then, while we are all there together, we could go drive the Dragon before everyone heads back home. This what other car clubs do every year. If you have no idea what I'm talking about here, PM me and I find some more info on the event for ya.
