You need a third option in the poll.
I think the scoop looks terrible, but who gives a damn. It's there to make the car faster not prettier, so who cars what it looks like. |

And just because I don't have a supercharger on my car anymore, doesn't mean I don't like working on them. This is in Greg's Car. (Old Schools)

-7 pulley?? Nice carb! What do you do for timing??
|
I was looking at the pulleys and gonna say something is missing! Duh! Idler and alternator......lol
|
I added a universal dashpot to my holley, it was a great addition!
|
Damn! another week to wait for the hood.........
|
auh a week goes by fast.

Tell him the Sterling would have worked fine for a draw through setup, if he had an adapter plate made. Nice setup though, I was wondering what he meant when he said he was going another route with his fuel system.
Back on topic, I've always loved the way the scoop looks on your car, it's mean and purposeful, so keep it until you don't need it. |
The sterling on the camden?? Not a hope...maybe on a 5" camden on a stockport 12a, otherwise no way..no offense sterling!
|
wow haha it makes the car look pretty bad ass! go for it!!
|
man, i cant decide! it look's like a scoop already. at the same time it would be nice.
:AA: |
For the purist, the car looks best without the scoop. However, for cruising and just plain driving, you cannot beat the looks and double takes you get with the scoop. Before the paint, I would be a ghost without the scoop, but with the scoop I get tons of looks, thumbs up and comments. Without the scoop, the blower just sounds like a gilmer drive or belt noise to some people, compliment that with the scoop and suddenly the perceptions is "that things got a blower!" Seconded only by, wtf, why isn't the scoop in the middle (my favorite question)

Hey, no offense taken. You don't need to apologize to me for your ignorance. Maybe you can't read, or maybe you don't believe that I know about carbs. Either way, I'm glad that you didn't go Sterling and make your own problem of carburetor ignorance my problem of an ignorant customer. Nothing worse than a customer who refuses to read about the damned product. ;)

-No need to convince you. Just go with what ya know. It's safer that way. ;) |
Go to the holley website, and let it do the calculations. For a 13b (call it 150 cubic inch since a 1.3l rotary = 2.6l displacement in 4 cylinder world), with a supercharger spinning up to 8500 rpm a 700 cfm carb is the result. Now do the same for a stock (or streetport) n/a application spinning 7000 rpm and a 390 cfm is suggested. I agree with both, and since a sterling can be pushed up to about 450 cfm it would be a natural choice for any n/a application. On a blowthru turbo, again the sterling would be a good choice because you won't need added cfm, just richen up the secondaries for boost (along with other necessary mods).

"Pushed" up to 450CFM?!?!? It comes out of the box flowing 465CFM! You need to go to the SMW website and read the whole damn thing.
On top of that a 1.3L rotary is a 1.3L engine. It is not a 2.6L. The only reason anyone says that is ignorance, or their tired of being beaten by a smaller engine. Sure each rotor makes power once per revolution of the e-shaft, instead of once every other rev of a crankshaft, but it is still a 1.3L. There has never been any point trying to equalize the rotary with a piston engine. They operate with the same end result in mind, but they are two entirely different machines. You can't just do some easy math and say it's the same. If I had a 2.6L EFI motor putting out only 135HP - if we're talking GSL-SE 13B - from the factory, I'd be damn pissed. |
Okay okay alright already, this wasn't a carb post anyway. Annnnnd I have nothing against a sterling, have recommended them in the past if you search my history, and for christ sake I did say "no offense". I am ignorant of the sterlings potential I admit, I just know what "I" know so back off about the sterling thing!

Alright, this is a scoop thread.
I'll have no choice but to run a scoop on mine, even though I would rather not. But I think the chrome is just a bit too flashy. A scoop (IMO) should be purely functional and blended as much as possible with the car. It actually looks more daunting that way, -like you didn't want to let everyone know you could smoke them but you had no choice. A gaudy eye-catcher of scoop is just an invitation for less experienced assholes to wanna drag you from light to light, and at least for me, those are the kind of kids I don't want catching sideways near MY damned car! But that's just my opinion. I plan on using a specially cut Sterling (525 cfm) with a 7 inch Camden on a ported & pinned 12a with a 12 lb flywheel. |
