I know you can put an S5 shifter into an S4 tranny and vice versa. How bout an S3?

why not just get a miata short shifter off ebay, yes they work and yes they are TRUE short shifters

What's the thread pattern on that? I'm trying to import 5 speed RX-8 shift knobs.

its the same as the series 5, which is the same as the rx-8 iirc
