RX-7 Targa

Does anybody know about the RX-7 Targa model that Mazda produced. I'm just curious about rarity or options that they had because I know of somebody who has two targas and they might be for sale.

I own one!!! No idea how rare they are. Here she is. All I know is that I have pwr mirrors, windows, headlight sprayers, spoiler, leather, cruise, electric gas door opener and hatch opener...I don't know if thous have anything to do with the "targa" band.

The roof doesn't come off if that's what you wanted to know.

I don't know how collectible they are either.

That white one looks great, yes it is what the two look like, the roof I think is a nice touch to the car. Both are I guess reasonable body-wise, one targa has had the rear spoiler removed. they both have leather, power windows, I can't remember what else, one is manual but clutch is seized, the other is an automatic, but engine is toast. I was thinking maybe make one good one out of two bad ones. The guy wants $1000 Canadian for both(900 American). I'll see if I can post some pictures for you to see.

Here's mine...

Here is my Targa 7, it is also a GSL-SE and came with stainless steel on the bottom of the car, too. I've never seen another one, anyone else?

They are panels of course...8 of them must be "glued" on somehow, as there are no bolts sticking through.

I have the Targa ban too. I'm pretty sure it's nothing speacial, just an aftermarket kit to make it look more like a Porche. They sell for about $50 US on ebay (I had two, but let one go.)

the targa band is part of a three piece kit from mazda called the imsa package. it consisted of a rear spoiler, the targa band, and front spoiler/bumper(imsa style). the pieces were available as a package or individually and were available in 84 and 85.

I have a brand new in box targa band in my collection... think they go for far more than $50 US by now though... I certainly wouldn't part with it for $50. although it is for sale, if anyone's interested.

I heard that there was somebody out there who you could pay to convert the car into a real targa top car. Not sure, but I think you had to provide the band.

I am wondering about this too. Previously I had only seen them on GSL-SE models, but the other day I saw one (targa band) on a SA wideboby. I don't think it was stock, but it sure did make me wonder. I know there was a company a while back that made a replica. It said "TARGA 7" on the side. I beleive the stock ones say Mazda on the sides. So when did Mazda make this a factory option on the RX-7?

I believe that it was an option before 84-85. When I bought my 82 GSL in Sept 1982 there was a gold 82 GSL on the showroom floor with the complete Mazda IMSA Kit installed, and it included the stainless Targa band. The complete kit was offered as a dealer installed option, or the individual pieces could be purchased seperately.

I like the way it looks...

It reminds me of the old porsche's.... It is going to go well with the new bright silver paint scheme I have up my sleeve.

bah the rear spoiler was part of that package as well? So that was what they took off the back of my GS. bah. Guess I will have to locate one of the spoilers when i can get time to.

but I think that I will move the Tara band from the 83 GS to the 84 GSL. I have the front damper as well.

could very well be. the mazda literature i have makes no mention of the imsa kit prior to 84 and i have never seen an S2 with the kit so i had igured that it was an S3 only option.
