rocker panel patches?

Where can I find patch panels for my rockers on my '85 RX-7? I have a small rust hole on the drivers side right in front of the wheel. I know as soon as I start grinding I will find more rust. Any one done this before?

You will have to have them custom made. A lot of the forum members seem to have this problem lately, somebody needs to start making them.

You may be able to go to A-1 imports and cut a section of rocker panel off one of their cars. They have quite a few of 1st gens there. How is your project coming along? I thought you fell off the earth or something. When you get your project done, you should meet up with Rich (64MGB) and go to a track and see whos car is faster. I would like to see the outcome personally.

A-1 imports phone number is 1-800-435-3002

They are located near Homestead (by Amana colonies) on hwy 6. About 15 minutes west of Iowa city. It would be a trip for you but I know they have at least 8 FBs there.

any competent tin-basher can patch that for you. It's just a simple curve in an otherwise flat piece of metal - easy stuff for a bodyman with metal skills.

Any tinners shop with a brake could probably make one also. Just take in a pattern of the curve and try to get the flanges bent too. Makes installation much easier.

Thanks for the reply's. I thought I would have to make some panels myself cosidering I couldn't find them anywhere.

Ian, I did fall off the face of the earth for a while. I have been very busy with a new baby expected in the next couple of weeks. My project has gone nowhere so far. My '66 mustang has been the priority for the last couple of months. I was going to sell the mazda but just can't get myself to do it, so I will fix it up.

I will second that.

In fact I'm curious/desparate for skin (body panel "skin" you pervies!) that I'm gonna look myself.

Rear quarter panels, $107 each: http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/P...004629/c-10114

No rocker panels.

But still... rear quarters. These rust out easily. Now, to come up with $214 plus shipping... :)

FURTHERMORE!

http://www.alfaparts.net/mazda.html sells patch panels, a bit pricey compared to the JC Whitney... BUT they want to make more stuff! Send them samples and they'll reproduce.

Niiiiice......

Looks like the gas tank is on the wrong side :)

JCWhitney has them. I can't find them listed on the website but this is a scan from the current catalog that lists them.

Dig it, righteous, etc. :bigthumb:

$34.95, I should be able to come up with that. Downside is having to *uuugh* purchase a JC Whitney catalog.
